2012 Silverado Leveling for front end

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just recently purchased a 2012 Silverado and the front end is definitely sitting lower than the rear and I think it looks dumb! I know I could play with the torsion bars but I'm pretty sure that won't do it. Any advice on a cheap but quality way to level it as I don't have money for the lift kit i want. Thanks for any help!!

Do you have a half ton or an HD? If you have a 1500 you have coil springs up front and your can just buy a leveling kit, which is just a coil spacer. Many companies make a quality spacer for the coil setup. If you have an HD you have torsion bars and every guy will tell you something different as far as leveling goes.

I have found that the best way to level my 2500HD is to hook up my camper and go fishing. Lots easier than a tortion bar adjustment ;).

My truck camper levels mine out just fine! I did the replacement keys/cranked torsion bars on my last Chevy truck....never again, it rode like crap. If you want a leveled look without sacrificing ride and load carrying capability, install 2" drop shackles on the rear.

The real way to level these trucks is to get Cognito uca's and get longer bilstein shocks... With keys obviously. Will not affect ride.

Or you can just get keys and shock extenders.. Will make it a little stiffer but your cv angles won't be great

Or you can just jack the truck up and crank they keys a few times. Will not 100 percent level but it will look better

That's just my 0.02

I did just a couple turns on the torsion bars...each turn is a 1/4-inch. For a little bit of lift, its not bad. I think an inch over stock ride height was all that was recommended for a torsion bar lift.

But to do what you want, and completely level the truck; save your money for a real lift.

Did you put shock extensions on or replace the shocks?

Nope took it to a local shop they replaced the keys and had it alined and that is it.

Depending on your shocks (don't know if they are stock or aftermarket) you may need to add extensions or buy longer shocks. Factory shocks will not last with a front leveled like that. Re-indexed keys still put added stress on your torsion bars and will make the front ride rougher than stock. I did it once, never again.
