I'm having a problem with the screen on a 2016 Silverado HD 2500. The image on the screen begins to degrade. Lines start showing, the image jumps around. As it gets worse, it begins to fade out. Within about 15 minutes of this starting, the screen is blank. The radio still works, I can press the screen where the buttons are supposed to be and the station changes. I took it to the dealer and they said they need to see it when it fails. I took it back when it went out and the diagnostics showed no output to the screen. I find that after it sits overnight, it is fine the next day, but only for about 45 minutes and then it starts the failure routine. I need to use the truck next week, but set up an appointment for Friday morning.

This was an interesting observation. Mine is still having outages even after the software update. i got in the truck to run a short errand and of course the intellilink was not operating. Rode in complete silence to my destination. When i got there, I shut the engine off but left the key on in the Accy position while on a phone call. A few minutes later the intellilink and infotainment suddenly came on and started working normally.

Over 4 months since the initial blackout......pulling the RDO fuse and replacing a few minutes later brought it back to life and hasn't happened since even with daily usage of the vehicle. Dealer said that's all they do if it has the latest update. So no sense leaving it at the dealer to have them replace parts blindly, or replace with another unit with buggy software, if they have no idea what it is or how to fix it.

Eventually they may debug their software and find the one line in a million lines of code written by some $1/hr. programmer half way around the world. In the meantime it's not really a big deal if I have to reboot the MyLink 3 or 4 times a year by popping the fuse. My home computer requires a lot more rebooting than that and a helluva lot less trouble than finding and replacing a bad tube in the AM radio in my '53 Chevy.

Cell phone video of the issue solves the unable to replicate. Just email it to your service advisor when you schedule the appointment. Can't say not to video evidence.

Nothing is worse than trying to diagnose electrical issues and the GM dealer is simply going to state, "unable to replicate" and send you on your way SOL.

Well, my screen shutoff the entire time this morning while the wife had the truck, before it was only resetting. This time it stayed off the entire time. Wife got video of it, so getting ready to make the call.

Update to original post: I took the truck to Mike Bell Chevrolet in Carrollton, GA on 11/11/16. The screen worked fine on the way there, but while at the shop, it started acting up. They discussed it with another group at GM and decided to replace the radio control assembly, which included a new screen on 11/16/16. I do believe this will correct the problem, although I haven't driven it for the hour it normally takes for it to fault. Good service department at Mike Bell.

My 2016 GMC Sierra, 8000 miles, has the exact same problem as you just described. I am taking it in hoping it will not a long time for the fix as I use the navigation function daily for work. I can't believe these problems have been going on for so long with out a fix or recall?

Same issue I have a 2016 Tahoe LTZ with less than 3000 miles. MyLink was glitchy 2 weeks after purchase.System finally suffered a catastrophic failure 4 weeks after purchase. Took over a week and a half to diagnose the failure and get the replacement NAV system. Now after getting the part in they tell me the HMI unit likely failed too. So this will be more down time.. GM regional rep refused to get my a comparable SUV while mine is in the shop..Really pissed off that a 73000 truck is having all these issues before the 1st payment.

Having this same issue. Truck was in last week for this and a recall and they said dont leave anything plugged in like a charger or sd card. Well that didn't work. When I get in the truck the station will be on 87.9 and the time is wrong. Time corrects itself after 5 or so seconds and I have to change the station each time. Only this past week has the radio been not turning on for a given time. Today it was a half a day. Unacceptable. Have at least two dozen videos of the radio malfunctioning. Turn on my camera to record before starting the truck. Sad that I have to do that. Currently waiting for the service rep to call me back. His suggestion the other day was they would probably have to replace the whole unit.

Update.

Truck is sitting at the dealer for the third day. They took out the program, reloaded it, didn't work, replaced the rcm, still didn't work. reprogrammed the new rcm and radio still won't turn on for them. Service rep said they are not sure what their next step is and waiting on GM to tell them what to try next.

At least they put me in a nice Acadia Limited.

Took my 2015 3500 Silverado into the dealership as my onstar system died and no gps, etc.  They changed out the HMI module and reprogrammed the module.  Now the radio screen is black, no onstar, no phone, etc.  They couldn't call GM as it was late Saturday afternoon so now return Monday morning to see if they can figure out the problem.  I removed the RDO fuse as was suggested in this thread and it did not solve the problem.

BTW, the original diagnosis was the onstar module was bad so I purchased a used one online and the dealership attempted (at least that's what they said) to reprogram it and could not.  An hour and a half with 7 onstar reps came to an end by them saying that used modules can NOT be reprogrammed for a different vehicle.

The issue appears to be the cable itself (a blue cable coming from the HMI). I went behind my glovebox and touched the cable a little, causing my screen to glitch around and black out if I moved the cable a certain way. I unplugged it, cleaned off the mini USB connector, and replugged it. It will still do it if I move it a certain way, but it's now not as sensitive.  Dealer even said it's likely a bad cable based on the error message the truck was giving on it.  Does anyone know what GM part number this is? It sounds like replacing this cable will fix it.

Does anyone know what the most current version of software is?

I am having some interesting issues with mine some of which are described here. I’d like to take it in and have an update performed, but I’d like to know for sure what the current software is before the dealership tells me there isn’t one available.

I'm having similar issues. 2016 Chevrolet Silverado LT. Two days ago, got in the truck and infotainment screen was black. Radio played through the speakers 15 seconds after turning key but screen stayed black. No bluetooth connectivity and had to control radio with steering controls. After 10 minutes of driving, steering controls are lost and can't control radio station or volume. When exiting the truck, the radio plays without the key in the ignition for 30 to 45 seconds with nobody in the truck. I have disconnected the battery and that doesn't work. Dealer wants $125 just to take a look. Any help is appreciated.
