Service Stabilitrak and Brake Assist

Ok so...I have a '14 Silverado Double Cab with the 5.3.

I bought it new in Feb of '14. I currently have 37k miles on it.

I absolutely hate the AFM crap. It bogs and hesitates when in 4 cyl and then surges when going back to 8. Sometimes it will bog bad enough when I try to slightly excelerate it will down shift at the same time it goes back to 8.

I researched and bought a Range because the latest news was they got the bugs out of it with regard to Canbus problems and faults.

I installed the Range at 34k miles and have driven my truck 3,000 miles with no problem. Now......Yesterday I get the Service Stabilitrak and Service Brake assist messages. I can also do a smokey burn out right now as the traction control and stabilitrak seem to be off. I will be contacting Range with a WTF message. They actually have a forum built right into their web site. I drive her hard. I was getting 18.5 average before....with the Range plugged in it jumped to 19.8 mpg.

It is my understanding this can go both ways however.

BTW...if you like the concept of 4 cylinders....Range also makes a device that makes the truck stay in 4 cylinders....LOL

edit: I will be trying this.....

I think we've all found the best solution to keeping Stabilitrak off on our trucks, as long as you don't mind the brake assist / Stabilitrak messages popping up.

You make a good point there Newell33. I do enjoy cutting donuts in the winter....and I do enjoy the occasional burnout with a bit of squirrly fish tail action... I am concerned about the trucks off road capabilities without traction control working though. I tried the Range suggestion with regard to plugging the device in "live" in order to clear the codes......negative result.

I do understand your concern. FYI, I'm pretty sure my Range was ordered after the software update was introduced. My truck still has the same issue. At first I was upset, and then I realized that to me it's a benefit. I also know that I'd probably go crazy driving the truck with AFM enabled for a week or two while Range tries to flash my module again.

Off-road, in deep snow/mud/sand is the time that traction control NEEDS to be turned off.

(and I'm a fan of leaving it on the rest of the time - except for the occasional hole shot)

Where you using the Range AFM disabler module?

I was using the Range module and I got the service stabilitrak and service brake assist warning messages. My Range was supposed to have the latest version 7 software and it still caused these codes. A regular code scanner/reader was not able to clear the codes. So I went to the dealer, played dumb, and they were able to clear the codes no questions asked.

I do use the range module. my problem was my 17 month old battery would send out a low voltage signal every time I started the truck. the messages never occurred while driving, just first thing when truck was started. I am still not sure why a low voltage signal would disable the whole traction control system. with a new battery installed, I have not had any messages and all functions work again. now if I could just get the 2nd leak in my roof fixed, I might like my truck again for a while.

Just curious, how long does your truck sit without being started? If left plugged in, the Range module can drain a battery below normal levels in a period of about 3 days. This may be related to the Stabilitrak messages.

truck is driven daily. when I turn off the ignition the blue lights on the range go out. I assume that it is now in sleep mode or off completely. when the truck is started the range comes back to life and cycles through the lights to mate up to the trucks "brain". does yours do the same as far as the lights on the module?

So I went to the dealer. They don't know why it activated. They checked all the possibilities they believe may have caused it, but everything came up clean. Also to note. I plugged in the Range V8 AFM device a couple days prior to this. I wonder if their related? So everything is good now. I guess I plug it in again and we see if it comes back. Tapatalk via Moto X

the range is causing your problem same thing happen to me even though i sent it in 3 times for updates last time i took to the stealership they had a hard time removing them do your self a favor and get rid of it (sold mine for $100)just manually shift to 5 in town and drive on the road

I don't remember how the lights acted on mine, but that sounds about right. As gilleydog noted above, the Range device is definitely causing the messages to pop up. I too supposedly had the updated version which was not supposed to cause the truck to throw those codes. Unfortunately, Range still doesn't have the product completely figured out. These trucks are sensitive to having anything plugged into the OBD port while the truck is running. I ended up selling my Range and going a different direction like the others. For the record, I wasn't too impressed with their customer service either.

what are you using to disable the afm. I am not a fan of it. I bought the range mostly because people are saying that is helps with the oil consumption issues not letting the engine to go into v4 mode.

Let's just say a tuner is your friend. Some of these trucks have horrible driveability from the factory. My AFM system coupled with horrible transmission shifting was causing me to pull my hair out. I didn't like being angry every time I drove my truck. I'll never buy another truck with this type of system installed, at least if it drives like my 2014. I'll likely be switching brands when my lease is up next January.

so, which one did you go with. I think I can still return the range, I have only had it since 10/2015. with the 6.2 I do not really want to mess with it too much, just disable the afm.
