Tailgate coming down harder

I noticed that lately my tailgate is coming quite a bit harder.

What should I check?

You may have sand, grit or something similar stuck in the hinges. Spray hinges with WD 40 liberally and flush out any grit that may be in there.

Nothing to check they aren't adjustable. I know because mine comes down harder now that it has Line x on it.. I found another 14 on the lot with Line x and tried it and while it was a little slower because it was brand new it was going down faster from the Line x too.. I think the ones that go down super slow are just not broken in and brand new because after trying the one on the lot about 5-10 times it started going down as fast as mine..

Yeah I noticed mine also but its not anywhere near slamming down. Also I'd rather not wait for it anyway.

I didn't really see it as a problem.

 

Note:

Since it has started coming down quicker it has not changed after it was broken in. If it keeps getting worse I would take it in

I have noticed that if you don't put the tailgate all the way up it will drop faster..

I have the factory bolt in bed liner. My gate goes down with a resounding thump. Dealer is researching.

Took mine in for the transmission oil cooler recall and mentioned it. She said they have been sending them all over to their body shop so I am going to stop by one day this week and see what they say.

I think the slow drop thing is a novelty anyway. I like the extra spring balance torsion bar in there to make it easier to lift, but the slow fall thing doesn't do anything for me.

My wife sure likes it. She wouldn't touch the tailgate in my last truck because it was so heavy. Now she has no problems opening and closing the tailgate.

Check the plastic bushing on the right hand side hinge. When you drop the gate down watch for the bushing to move/try and come out. May be cracked.
