22" CK165 - Tire options, sizes and experiences

2015 GMC Yukon Denali

I just recently ordered these (CK156) from shopchevyparts.com (the shipping was cheaper than shopgmcparts.com) and a set of Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza tires (P285/45R-22) from TireRack.com (since these are the OEM tires for the optional 22" wheels on the new Yukons). I received an email from TireRack.com saying that the tires had shipped, but then shortly after, I received an email from shopchevyparts.com saying that the wheels are on backorder with an anticipated availability in 45-60 days.

After reading this page, I'm not sure 45-60 days will be accurate. I also learned about this whole LPO stuff and confirmed that the neither the local dealership nor the ADI (accessory distributor installer) could do anything about it since LPOs have to be purchased when placing the original vehicle order. I did find out that the ADI does have 16 in stock. Oh well.

So I'm not sure how to proceed: wait (indefinitely), cancel my wheel order with shopchevyparts.com, go with another GM wheel (not sure I like the other ones as much), or go with a new non-GM wheel that I can also use with the lonely 22" tires sitting in my garage (which comes at a risk of potentially dealing with "using non-GM parts voids the warranty" lines that dealerships like to try and say even though the warranty item being fixed is not even related).

Also not sure who to be more frustrated with:

- GMC false advertising/marketing who lists these wheels as an accessory in the brochure (Pg 33 - http://www.gmc.com/content/dam/GMC/global/master/nscwebsite/en/home/Vehicles/Current_Vehicles/2015_Yukon/Model_Overview/02_PDF/2015-Yukon.pdf) but failing to mention the major point that you can only purchase certain accessories at time of vehicle factory order.

- That they only list 3 of the 8 22" wheel options when you "Build & Price" a new vehicle on gmc.com.

- That they only list 5 of the 8 22" wheel options on gmcaccessories.com

- Or with the whole LPO concept/bureaucracies in general by which I learned that the local ADI actually has 16 of these in stock but are unable to take my money (for GM/GMC/ADI/Local Dealership profits). It's like hey, here's a few grand for some extra stuff you have lying around. But they're like nah, it looks so pretty sitting over there...so much better than having actual dollars.

I know exactly what you mean. Nothing on any of the on-line accessory dealers indicated that there were any problems ordering these wheels. Shopgmcparts.com just said the item was backordered and would be available in 30-45 days. They never mentioned anything about the part being an LPO part until the 4th phone call to check on the order status. I finally ended up cancelling my order. But now I'm considering re-ordering and just waiting it out. I'm not going to order tires until the wheels show up at my house :-)

Before I submitted my order, it actually gave a delivery date that was like 4 days out from the order date. It wasn't until a day after did I receive the email that it was out of stock / backordered.

So I guess I have a few questions to the group now:

- Does anyone have any insight into GM as to when the LPOs may be lifted? The answer doesn't have to be exact, but working with "30 days to never" makes it quite difficult to an educated decision.

- Since all of the 22" wheels are LPOs, how does GM expect one to buy 22" wheels but only use GM approved wheel and tire combinations? Seems to be a bit of a catch 22 (no pun intended).

The only way to get the 22" SEY's right now, is to buy a truck with the SEY's already on it.

We were one of the largest eBay sellers of GM OEM wheels. There is no eta on when GM will release the wheels outside of LPOs. We've been waiting since November 2013. IF it even happens.

My assumption is supply and demand. GM is probably going to keep their stock in wheels rather large until all orders get caught up with the new platform. Then maybe release them from that point forward.

This way they can entertain the LPOs first and then once the new body is in full swing, they'll start going back to the way things were.

I can guarantee you that once it happens, we will be putting them back on eBay and will beat anyone as far as pricing.. Same as we did before. ;)

Thanks for the information...I really want these rims, but want to make sure if I spend the money they fit.

Nope. You have a 2500 which is 8 lug. These are 6 lug.

Im runnin 305/45/22 nitto terra grappers on mine. I love the look and how they stick out a little morr. However those stock bridgestone tires theyre puttin on are damn good all around

Are you running a leveling kit to clear those 305/45R22's?

I have a set of 22" wheels coming with a +30 offset (stock is +34 I think) and really want to run that size tire but don't want to level if I don't have to. Anyone have the answer? I want to run some Toyo Open Country AT's that are listed as 32.6" diameter and 11.9" wide. I know it will be close.

Yes i ran it with a 2" level no rubbing. I have +18 mm offset and added .25" spacers and atill had no rubbing with the 2" level. So if you ask me id say youll be close but prob okay since youre gunna have a 30mm offset.

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
