Check your chrome bumper on the passenger side for a factory flaw. It will look like a ding or dent at the top of the chrome portion between the chrome and the painted portion. See picture below

The driver's side will have it also but it will be much smaller and you will be able to feel it but not actually see it.

I brought mine in to get a new bumper ordered and the service department checked all of the trucks on the lot and 50% of them had this flaw.

not seeing it in your pic, where on the bumper is it?

Passenger side of front bumper. Top of the chrome portion. Looks like a dent in the chrome portion but it's something that's happening in the manufacturing process of the bumper.

You have a Sierra not a Silverado, so you won't have it!

I see two issues, One looks like a crack in the corner seam (maybe reflection from photo taken) and the second is bump in the lip.

Just looked and mine has it, not going to bother with it because you cant really see it but do notice it if you run your finger across the top of the bumper. It just looks like the stamping die is/was worn slightly in that area when they made the bumper. It may also not be as noticeable on mine because it it a dark color (Topaz Blue) compared to the original posters white truck.

Dealer is replacing the bumper on Friday, mine is more severe than most of the others I have seen.

What if the replacement bumper has the same defect?

The obvious answer is that the service tech verified that the new bumper doesn't have the defect before installing, otherwise whats the point.

Mine has this flaw too. I may mention it to the dealer when I go in for service. It is noticeable walking toward the truck from the side. Doesn't really bother me. The thought that the dealership not installing the new bumper correctly bothers me more.

I hope they install it correctly without scratching it. I took a look under it and the mounting hardware doesn't look that complicated, however I agree that it does worry me a bit.

New bumper installed, looks much better, service techs did a great job. I stopped by another dealership this past weekend, they have 7 new Silverados and 3 of them have the defective bumper.

Another bullet GM is dodging, apparently the CrewCab trucks have the defective bumpers but not a lot of people are making GM replace them so their plan is working. They knew it was defective and took a chance that most people would just let it go.

Don't for one second think that it wasn't a conscious decision by GM to put those defective bumpers on and take a chance. Remember, you paid for a non-defective bumper unless they showed it to you at the time of purchase and said, "look all these trucks have defective bumpers, even the one your going to purchase. Oh, no we are not deducting any money for that, it's just an added feature."

My bumper on the passenger side is slightly lower than the driver side (the gap between the bumper and the painted portion is bigger in other words). That' bothers me the most. But I've been too lazy to get them to fix it. I wish there was an easy way to adjust a bolt or something and raise it up.
