Whats the deal with the 14 forum?

Well since you asked, here's the deal:

 

Most newbs that repost topics just want instant answers but aren't willing to put forth any effort, reading or searching. Those repeated topics only make it harder for everyone else to find, research, & discuss subjects, so that's why they're locked.

 

Sometimes members do search and only post because they couldn't find the topics/answers. What you don't see in those situations are the PM's between those members and myself, explaining why their topic was locked and attempting to find out why their search efforts failed.

 

As for scolding, I always try to use please and thanks when asking members to search. Not sure what other words are necessary. Additionally, I most always include links to the correct topics, thus doing the searches for them. Also, at the top of the forum are two Pinned topics with "PLEASE READ" in the titles that explain basic expectations, as well as providing info, links, etc.

 

IMO, working to make the 2014 forum as efficient and effective as possible, so owners/members can easily find/discuss the subjects their interested in, is a great way of promoting GM truck ownership.

It would be nice if there was a message saying something along the lines of "if your new, there is most likely a topic about your inquiry. Be sure to search before creating a new thread."

This forum is VERY friendly to newcomers. Many forums a noob will get flamed so bad on a dumb post they'll cry lol.

There is. It's pinned at the top of the 2014 forum.... Many would rather ask for the answer than actually look for it. Same way on part #s. Easy enough to look up common part #s on several parts sites, but they'll ask here instead.

 

David has done a very good job of keeping things organized so that a person can find the info pretty easily. Wished something like this would have been done way earlier for the 800 and 900 series. So much info is spread among a bunch of threads

I think that the section and forum in general are welcoming to noobs. It should be common sense to search and not create ANOTHER tire, lift or tune thread. Or which CAI makes more noise?????!!! I need some noise cuz da truk is so quiet. lol

I've been a member since February 2008 and I'd say newbies are treated rather well here. It's pretty bad on other forums I've seen. I also like the distribution of the 2014 forum. Easy to find info for members like me that do lots more reading than posting (as you can see from my post count after 6 years).
