Orange Peel on the paint?

While filling my tank today I notice that the paint right in front of the rear wheel wells looked to be orange peeling at the bottom. It is on both side, but it still does not seem to be normal to me. Anyone else seen this?

Orange / rust specs on my tailgate. (Color is Summit White) so it sucks!!! Ugh.

Some orange peel is normal. I do not think you will find a new vehicle that does not have some of it in certain areas. Some colors show it more than others.

 

As for rail dust, use a clay bar to get rid of it.

the orange peel is actually a chip resistant coating along the bottom edge of both sides. it's on every 2014.

That is the stone guard film, not orange peel.

Yes, this is gravel guard spray under the paint. It has extreme orange peel appearance, but this is normal. GM used it more extensively in the past. I remember my father's 1980 Cadillac Coupe de Ville had it along the bottom on both sides.

yep. This is to protect the paint from crap getting flung up at the rocker panels.

yep - i think mine runs the entire length of the rockers. my '10 did not have it and i really missed having it on my truck. i was happy to see it when i bought the '14!

Yeah,the stone guard sure does look like a really bad case of orange peel.

My old truck ('98 K1500) had a way better paint job than my new one. There is definitely quite a bit of orange peel in the paint. Not sure if it's this new water base crap causing it or just a bad paint job. Doggone those robots anyway!!

I did not notice the orange peel on mine when I first bought it and it has been pretty dirty until I got it detailed a couple weeks ago. The owner of the detail shop pointed out all the orange peel to me and said the paint job would be considered unacceptable. Not almost acceptible, baiscally totally unacceptable. Should never have gone to sale the way it is. What's worse is I just noticed what looked like a like a little knick from road debris and I touched it with my finger nail only to see that the paint just flaked right off. I now have a spot about the size of a silver dollar already where the paint is flaking off.

 

I am pretty livid. Waiting to hear if others are having paint peeling off yet. This is the absolute worst paint job I have ever seen. I touched the scratch with my finger nail and the paint is ridiculously thin and actually flakes right off. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

The detail guy also said there was some kind of marking material that repair shops use and it is only seen on a vehicle when it has gone for repairs...but I bought the truck brand new.
