Made the correction for you.

HA HA, took me a minute to catch that. I can recall back in the day my dad had a large site prep. co. He bought 3 72 model SS el caminos with the 402s, kept one handed the other two out to his brothers. Big differnts in performance between them. So I guess I came up against a slow ecoboost with my fast GMC?

Yeah he was respectful and didn't put the hammer down. I've had both, love the Denali though - it's a keeper and the 5.3 has plenty of power for my use.

You guys must know some really hot ecoboosts out there. Granted, I have the 6.2 w/ 3.42, but my neighbor has a 2013 eco and I can absolutely rape him from a dig. I mean, it's not even funny. Left him like he was tied to a tree. He was not a happy camper. Became even less happy when I told him that I was getting better gas mileage too even though I drive it like I stole it.

To be fair I was comparing the eco to the 5.3 not a 6.2l, so you might be right. My eco was getting 17mpg avg with 3.73 gearing, I personally know 3 others with the eco getting the same MPG. Like anything conditions driver habits will determine MPG. But if you take the same conditions, same driver, the 6.2l will not get better MPG in average driving conditions, thats just not true.

LOL...Lots of chest beating here. This is one load of BS. Definitely your 6.2 will take a 6 cyl ecoboost but not like you describe. The EB will take the 5.3 - no problem. As for gas mileage you will not beat the EB. I know, I have the 5.3L and have had the EB - the EB got slightly better gas mileage than I'm getting with the 5.3L. So unless you're saying you are getting better gas mileage than the 5.3 then your post is BS.

I have absolutely no reason to fabricate anything. My wife and I have been the victims of "internet bullying" which is propigated by individuals who are just simply cruel (I can't think of a better adjective) spreading lies. We've been damaged both emotionally and financially. This isn't something I take lightly. I take no offense, it is certainly your right to express your opinion, but please don't suggest that I'm lying without firm basis.

As for the EB/6.2 matchup, that's how it went down. 3 times in a row in fact. I don't think it was quite a 1/4 mi, but pretty close. I had him by 5 the first two, and probably 4 on the last run. I had my TC & SC off on the first two, turned it back on for the last run just for fun and he couldn't seem to get his turned off (I don't think he's much of a "button" guy. I tend to push them all just to see what happens). It made a difference. We were both a bit confused by the matchup as we were both quite sure it would be a close run. His is a crew cab 2wd, I have a DC 4x4. One of my employees has a 5.0, and even though we've never been able to line them up properly, his certainly seems to get out of the hole a lot quicker than the EB. May just be my perception though.

Our prevailing theory is that his EB had "learned" his old man driving habits, and as this event was quite out of the norm in terms of daily operation for him, the truck must have assumed it was being stolen and was doing all it could to interfere with the getaway. Rather thoughtful of the truck if you ask me.

As for the mileage, I dunno what to say. I've been very pleasantly surprised. Here's what he was complaining about, I showed him this from weekend before last. Had just got home from a trip, interstate cruising @ 73 mph: (pic #1)

Also, on the commute this morning I grabbed this: (pic #2)

I missed the first 4 miles or so of highway cruising, so it may have actually been better than this for the whole trip. About 5 miles at least of this were stop and go plus 5 floors of a parking garage. Gotta love downtown interstate traffic during construction season!

And so we are all clear: (pic #3) No, it's not an OEM badge.

And to the OP...sorry for having a fight at your black panther party :(

That's what he claims he's getting as well, right around 17/18 in mixed driving. He also said it's been very difficult to get anything over 20 even on a highway cruise. He loves the truck, would do it again in a heartbeat, but he's been dissappointed at the mileage. And he's not alone on that by any stretch of the imagination. I think some of the perception regarding the EB's lackluster economy is a result of overinflated expectations which Ford has certainly capitalized on. A 3 ton rolling barn side will never get the same #'s as a Honda Civic.

But when comes to drag racing among non-professionals its a guessing game I have seen camaros beat vettes. Was the race a true quarter mile what is longer? Ecoboost will have some turbo lag so could explain being beat in a short race say 1/8 mile or less. Was it a top end race, where as maybe the bigger motor has longer legs.

One note though if you are truely trying to gauge a real life MPG, you need to probably at least go gas tanks worth or some longer mileage. 50 miles can really be deceiving as you could have had a tail wind, down hill really really flat etc. Those number do seem really nice but I would like to see your numbers on a full tank of guess, as I am now curious, lol.

Oh I agree fords marketing blew the MPG thing out of perportion, but then again a lot of buyers bought it hook like and sinker without looking into it. I loved the truck as well, and will probably go back to be honest. But witht that said he is getting the advertised mileage so I dont understand the beef. A lot of guys over the forums have beefed but when they state their MPG and its within spec they still beef, but I think it goes back to the perception ford created. I had 3.73 gearing and could almost bust 21mpg on the highway going 75, but not quite. But I did get 12-13mpg towing a 9000lb boat cruise set at 68 for 600miles.

bdbake...I didn't say the EB would take your truck - reread the post I made. It's just that you exaggerated the outcome, I know your 6.2 is faster and said so. If you "Left him like he was tied to a tree" then he wasn't trying and let you go for it. Believe me I've had an EB and know this is false. Your better gas mileage claim is pure rubbish.

He really seemed to lay down around 20 mph or so. We ran nearly a 1/4 mile, so it tested the top end as well. By the end he seemed to be holding his own, but it kinda jumped out pretty well, then faded hard only to come back. May be indicative of the turbo lag. We both power braked a little, so he should have had some boost built up out of the hole. To be 100% fair and honest, I've done more than my fair share of racing and he has not. Still, racing a truck isn't too difficult. A 500+ hp live axle muscle car is a whole other beast.

As for the mileage, I'm with you 100%. And these are DIC #'s, so take them with a grain of salt. I'm on my 4th fill up, and my driving has been a mix of everything and yes, I've certainly had some fun with the tachometer :) When it's nice and broken in, I'll run my own mileage diagnostics. For now, the computer game is kinda fun.

I'm with you. I think his mpg disappointment was a result of HOPING for better mileage, but he's realistic when it comes right down to it. His tongue n cheek disappointment when we were playing around was a "you can beat me that bad AND still get 20+ mpg??? WTF??" kinda disappointment. I tried to rub salt in the wound by pointing out that my truck also looks better :D He disagreed ;)

Maybe I was having a bit of fun with the colorful description, didn't mean to butt hurt anyone I was just having a bit of fun. That said, even 2 or more lengths on a street race is usually call for the slow cruise of shame back home. As for him getting out of the hole, I do think his TC was really causing him some problems. I know mine does, it'll just get all angry and pissy if I try to get a good start with it on. It does NOT want you to drive innappropriately at all.

Dude....I dunno what to tell you. I photoshopped the pics, better now? He claims 17/18, we went for a ride and he drove, easily topped 20 on the DIC on the interstate. And no, I'm not talking about racing it up to 70 and letting it coast. I can get 99 doing that. I'm talking set the cruise and watch it sit at the low 20's on level ground. He was impressed.

Sounding better. I don't doubt that you are getting great gas mileage - heck I can get 27/28 US MPG over a short distance (50 miles) as well with the right conditions. Doesn't mean that I can do it all the time. According to the On-star app my life time is 16 MPG and I can prove that if you want. What's yours?

I never noticed that was in the app. Thanks. I'm sporting 17. This includes tank #2 which I can assure you I got about 8 mpg on.

I reeeeally enjoyed tank #2 :driving::D

Having came from a 13' Ecoboost 4x4 with some bolt-ons (intake and exhaust) and a 93performance tune....I def miss the tq. But I am loving not having misfires or the condensation issue. Overall I'm a lot happier with the 5.3L.

A tuned ecoboost with intake and exhaust is capable 13.5's all day. It's a FI truck, the "Proper" way to "race" it is to brake boost it to around 2200rpm. There are not many trucks out there that will get out of the hole faster. I averaged 20 MPG hwy and with the 5.3L I'm seeing 21-23mpg. I also saw a 2 mpg increase while towing.

Posted

I drove my dads 2012 eb to work for 2 weeks while trying to decide which truck I wanted. Driving the exact same route the best I could do was 16.8.

I'm getting 20.1 & 20.3 hand calculated in my 5.3 on my last two fill ups.

I'm not some gm nut swinger. I grew up in a ford family that refuses to try anything new. I personally purchased the truck that makes me happy and does a good job pulling my trailer.
