"2014+ ISSUES" SUB-FORUM POLL

It's been about 3 months since we added the sub-forum's to the 2014+ main forum and so far it has been a success. In that time, the main and other two sub-forum's have been thoroughly managed, moderated, organized, while the 2014+ Issues sub-forum has been, for the most part, left wide open. The thought process being every issue/problem/question/complaint has the potential to be unique, so there wasn't as big a concern about repeat topics, repeat answers, etc, compared to the other sections.

 

My question: For those that frequent this sub-forum, do you feel it could use a spring cleaning/organizing/etc? or do you feel it's working well the way it is?

 

I have no problem with either, and honestly a large vote of "No - it's fine the way it is" actually means less work for me and other moderators! ha. But I just wanted to put this out there in case the majority of you felt the 2014+ Issues section was being neglected. If you choose not to vote, you'll be assumed to have no opinion either way.

 

I'll leave this topic/poll up until May 1st to see how you guys stand before doing anything (unless there's an overwhelming vote one way or the other by next weekend).

Here's a suggestion:

 

A large percentage of the badmouthing/unhelpful/useless posts in this section come from people who do not own 2014's and just enjoy badmouthing them for their own reasons (##########). Since these people have no real experience with these vehicles their posts usually offer no helpful information, just some made-up rants about crappy parts made in China and lousy Mexican workers quite often with more false information than anything else.

 

When somebody posts about a problem and is looking for help, those snide remarks are not helpful in the least. Reducing those posts would greatly improve the signal to noise ratio of this section making it much more helpful to those who come to it looking for help, not to wade through nonsensical rants about China and Mexico. Banning the worst offenders from this section is all it would take.

I agree 100% with Jon A's suggestion. I would even promote the idea that in order to post on this forum that you have to prove that you own a 2014, ie: pic, vin number. This truck is totally different then any other gen vehicle, I know, because of the amount of driving that I do, I buy a new one every three years. I DON'T CARE if your 2009 burned oil or your paint was better, etc. I'm only concerned about what's happening with the 2014's.

100% agree If you don't own a 14+ you don't need to be posting in the 14+ forum. Topics and questions often get passed by or go unanswered due to trolls....

Why would someone who dosent own a 14 not be allowed to post in the 14 section? There are plenty of members who don't own 14's that can provide information about my things in that section.. Not to mention there is no real away to enforce who is saying they own a 14.

 

If we make a 14 owners only section shouldn't we make a GMT900, GMT800, GMT400 owners only section too?

Very useless suggestion. Some people are looking to upgrade or hell the way you guys talk of the trucks it will be a downgrade. Some people dont own one but still have had their hands on them or worked on them already. Hell some might be posting for a friend who is not a member and does not wish to become a member

Yeah, that's not exactly what I meant. If somebody has a lot of knowledge and is trying to help, I think everybody welcomes those posts no matter who they come from. The distinction is, a snide comment from somebody who owns a 2014, has had problems, is frustrated and wants to rant a bit doesn't bother me at all. I figure they're entitled as they have paid their dues and have a vested interest in getting things solved. That's much different than people who simply enjoy throwing darts from afar for their own enjoyment.

I think a fair conclusion could be that the moderators enforce some specific k2 threads more closely, meaning when someone comments about poor quality of parts or Chinese made parts in a thread where that is completely irrelevant. Those are the comments that trigger everyone off and ruin threads.

 

That's just my opinion though!

Very very true. Unfortunately humans are humans and each person is raised differently. Those of us that know better and treat others properly will be respected. The others should be ignored.

This is an open forum, so we can't/won't limit who can post.

 

That said, there is a 'Report' function beneath each post. While it's impracticable to police every sarcastic/negative comment, it you find a members postings to be excessively counterproductive or inappropriate, you may report the content.

I agree whole heartily with this. Those of us that are having an issue want nothing more than to resolve the problem. I think we need a little purging of comments on threads and a little tidying up. These are the best Trucks ever made in my opinion and I would hope that this forum can help to make them even better.

I appreciate the comments raised here and appreciate those who are really trying to help others which has been my focus, but not always that of some. When you are trying to solve an issue or help others and someone posts sarcastic remarks, it can be very frustrating. I am not talking about the occasional "poking fun" at a brain fart or a frustrated rant. There is a lot of good information and sharing going on, even worthwhile feedback to aftermarket providers.

 

I agree with the comment about uninformed comments. There are a lot of differences between the 2011 Silverado I traded in and my 2014, mainly in features and how the options work. But even the type and quantity of oil. I've been just referring OPs to the Owners Manual in these situations because a lot of what they are asking is there. And they shouldn't assume it works the way their pre-2014 worked. Yes, it is very apparent when comments are from "informed" vs. "uninformed" (those that really have no knowledge of the 2014).

 

Anyway, you are not going to be able to police all of this. I use the Manage Ignore Prefs to ignore Trolls that I've come to identify as non-productive to me. I do think the separation of topics has helped. Sometimes, though it is still hard to find a topic using search.
