Best air filter

Its about time for me to replace the air filter in my truck. I have always used Fram filters but have heard so many say there filters suck. So what should i use? Napa gold or some other brand. Don't want a oiled filter either. Also what is the difference i am seeing between the light duty filter and heavy duty.

Fram air filters are great. The only bad fram filter is the 3 dollar orange oil filter. The rest are great, unfortunately some people expect a quality oil filter for 3 bucks and are mad when they get junk. Hmmmm.....

I've been using the NAPA Gold filter for years now and am very satisfied with it. Same with their oil filters (and I use AC/Delco)

Fram or whatever GM uses originally works as well as anything you you woukd normally need. If you live in a very dusty region consider a heavy duty version and clean regularly.

I've had the same spectra (non oiled) for 6 years. Its seen a lot of dirt dust and mud and is still great. Wash it once a month

NAPA Gold filters, which are made by WIX are about the best for the money.

I have always been a little partial to the Amsoil EA air filters. They claim to flow a little better, and they are designed for 100,000 miles under normal use. Just clean with low air or vacuum. I have a Filter Minder gauge on my air box to let me know if filter needs cleaned or replaced.

Before I went to K&N I stayed with the AC Delco. It's what to good book said so that what I put in. However, I think that just about all the non-oiled air filter work well.

Fram air filters don't suck (especially the ToughGuard ones that cost a little more). But I've always heard the cheap Fram orange oil filters are no good since they started making their mid-level ToughGuard and top-level UltraSynthetic ones.

 

I guess the question would be "best at what" air filter? If you're looking for good filtration in your stock air box, go with the AC Delco extra-capacity version that comes standard on the Z-71s or a Purolator PureOne or Wix air filter. Or if you're looking for a better-flowing (but probably not-as-good-at-filtering-small-dirt-particles than those listed above) filter to make a few more horsepower, go with an AirRaid SynthaMax dry filter or K&N Blackhawk intake/filter.

As long as you change the air filter, you really cant go wrong. Anyone that is on sale should be good.
