automatic Retractable Running Boards

+1. I emailed AMP asking for a dealer to install mine. They responded quickly. Contacted dealer...installed my plug n play steps for the same price they were selling online. The dealer was able to get them overnight and installed the next day - put 3 guys on it and finished in two hours. I'm used to doing everything myself, but for that price and time, why would I?

...the best thing is the wife really likes them too. :)

Amp-research is good stuff. I got the bed step and side step and the bed cargo extender on my truck and would like to get the retractable side steps but I had dealer install the black steps on my truck before I took delivery. Anyone want Gm side steps that are black from a crew cab and id let them go. I like everyones truck that has them on it.

the amp running boards are just as good quality as OEM if not better. if they have a 5 year warranty im pretty sure they will last. my old boss had some on his 11 sierra and bought a k2 after he saw mine and swapped them out and put them on his 2014 and they are still working with no issues at all.

I did the same thing, had mine on my '11 and they're now on my '14.

Like I posted earlier, the GM boards are likely made by AMP for GM as their vendor. The "better" part about the new AMP boards is that they are plug-n-play for the door position signal portion. There is a new OBD2 plug that you simply plug in under the dash and it has a pass-thru OBD connector to maintain the use of the connector for diagnosis, etc.. That's all there is to the signal wiring, unlike the their past kit and other makers kits for retractable boards. In their earlier kits, you had to pull the panel on each door and tap the wiring signal for the door position.

I don't know what the factory board signal wiring requires. It may have a harness. But as noted by someone, the price was going to be ridiculous for the OEM boards. This may be a case where the aftermarket board is the better way to go.

Another point my installer showed me is that the motor and running board designs have been updated. He showed me his Ford F-150 Platinum with OEM steps made by AMP compared to mine. The extend/retract time is quicker with the new version and the way the boards attach is a bit more sturdier. His truck has the stainless steel inserts which look good with his silver truck. I opted for black with my Deep Ruby.

As Spurshot says, the plug n play is a big plus!

I don't like the way the amps don't look oem when they open, the long retractable arms. And they seem to open a good bit lower than the OEM boards. Not that I wouldn't consider that AMPS, just would prefer OEM.

It sounds like no one has actually installed the OEM Tahoe powerboards on their K2 truck. I was hoping someone did it.

Did you happen to see the pricing? $5,000+ and a custom install that has never been done does not sound like a good option...

The OEMs are beefier and don't look aftermarket like AMPs do. I saw a set of AMPs on a parked Chevy...pass side was down and driver side was up. That's the last thing I want to see on my $50k+ truck. But yeah, $5k is a lot of scratch. I'll be sticking with the stock surf boards for now.

On the new OBD connector running boards, the board won't retract if the door is ajar, even a little.

EDIT... OK I posted at the same time you did... I didn't see the part about aftermarket.

Sorry about that

Mine are not OEM, but they work great and are extremely solid. Company tested to 600 lb. each side.

AMP Research Power Boards. The nice thing is, they just look like a piece of body trim when closed. Also, 5 year warranty.

What color is your truck? And are the wheels 20 or 22? Looks good.

Thanks... Color is Tungsten (Iridium in GMC), wheels are GM 22" SEY's.
