Things to look over when taking delivery

I'm waiting for my truck to come in to the dealer. When it does get here, I wanna go over it with a fine toothed comb so to speak. Only problem is that I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

Anyone have a list of things to go over and look at?

I know I want to take it on an extended test drive to feel for vibrations or anything like that.

Drive, drive, drive...check for obvious stuff like paint scratches or dents, make sure the options that you expect are there...and then drive, drive, drive. Don't assume anything works the way your previous vehicles worked. Too many reengineered features. This truck is not the same as previous years.

I drove mine at highway and residential, bumpy streets. No vibration like some on here and didn't notice the radio reception issues until further away from the dealer. I always check cosmetics and general operation. It is generally overwhelming to check every option, but that is what warranty is for.

Good luck.

Relax it has a warranty, just do a short drive, check the paint. Take the web sites with a grain of salt most people have no problems. If you are prone to be paranoid stay away from the web sites for a while or you will be wondering how your the only one that got such a great truck like me. While some people do have problems its small in total. If you really want to blow your mind look at the sites for all the brands you wouldn't buy anything.

I've noticed that from looking at forums over the years. People only post problems, no one starts a thread saying "everything's perfect with my truck"

Check tire P.S.I. , sounds silly but mine was crazy on all four tires. Rode and drove like crap. You can check this via drivers info controls on the steering wheel buttons. I think it is the up arrow one or two clicks. the sales person can assist you with this. Ive found on my 18s that around 31,32 p.s.i cold is the sweet spot. makes a lot of difference. I'm shire someone else can assist on what to run 20s or 22s. Also check how they detail and wash your pretty new truck. The dealer just ran mine thru an automatic "BRUSH" wash. Lots of scratches right from the start. I would tell them Ill do it myself. But like everyone else says ,check options(verify gear ratio!) and drive. No two trucks are the same and this will be your only real chance to have any chance of having any real leverage. Once you take delivery, well, you know how it goes. TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED!!! You also may want to check all TSBs and recalls before you go in ,make a check list if you have to. IF it aint right, do not accept. good luck :driving:

DO NOT go at night, in the rain, or when the dealer is about to close! Test drive it and check all of the fluids. Open and close doors and compartments. Look for scratches or dents. Don't get in a hurry! I took 30 minutes to look my truck over before I went to get the salesman to take delivery. You will likely find something you missed on the ride home or when you get there. It's not the end of the world and can be fixed under warranty. Enjoy your new truck.

Test drive should take place before you commit to buy. Once deal is done but prior to taking delivery, I focus on a detailed cosmetic checks of both exterior and interior for items/issues that may exist. You must do this as the dealers require you sign off on a delivery note to document that you inspected the vehicle and are accepting it as it is (this is usually done by having the salesman sit in your truck with you and showing you how to use various features, like setting up the bluetooth, using the nav system, etc). Don't get caught up in the fever of new ownership....they (dealers) want to get you out and on your way as quick as possible so that they can move onto the next buyer.

Mechanical issues will likely not be observed at introduction but as we all know can occur once you take it home and commence use of the truck and those will be covered by warranty. Returning after the fact to complain about a cosmetic issue is not so easy as dealers (stealers) can claim (but most likely won't) that it was not a pre-existing condition prior to sale.

Also, never trust the words of a salesman that they will fix a problem you find no matter how minor it is...get it in writing to include a service appointment of from the dealership's general sales manager if that's what is needed.

And, just as important (and in some cases even more important) always, do a complete walk around when picking up your vehicle after having it services (or repaired), as service techs and dealership porters are known to be careless when handling customer's vehicles including when and where they park them on the lot, think door dings, marks and scrapes on exterior/interior, greasy/oily hand/finger prints, etc.

In addition to all that was stated, look at the roof. I Bought a '99, test drove it, inspected it, gone through everything I could think of. Bought it. Week or so later, I am giving her the first hand wash, climb up the bed, the roof was caved in. Apparently it hit the frame coming off the transport truck. Dealership did fix but I was disappoint it went through delivery

and they didn't mention it. Just do the best you can. You'll always find something that you wish you would have mentioned. Good luck and congrats.

listen for rear end noise when backing up. it would also be best to take a drive on wet roads if possible to check the noise then. i had rear problems and after 3 visits dealer ended up replacing rusted leaf springs.

+ the above.

Bring a high power flashlight and wear something you don't mine crawling under the truck with. Examine under the truck for any transport damage, leaks and general weirdness. Examine the engine compartment.

Do all the doors and tailgate line up? Look inside the doors for damage.

As others had stated, check the wax coating on the frame - either peeling or showing rust right off the transport truck- start rejecting these trucks already.

Warranty will leave you hanging on that one.

Make sure it drives without a stutter. I tossed aside a double cab that wouldn't get out of its own way

Check for rear end noise at 35-40 mph- unfortunately-- mine didn't start it until 500 or so miles

Make sure all the active recall work has already been performed before you take delivery.

Most are quick fixes but you don;t want to take a week old truck in for recalls that were active before you bought it.
