2015 differences

Wow well that's a disappointment. There goes any hope of OnStar working in remote places. The coverage of AT&T in the northeast is a joke.

FYI for Canadians using Onstar... Received the following a couple of days ago.

Please note: Your vehicle is equipped with hardware that operates on a 2G CDMA wireless network. This network is used to supportOnStar services in Canada. OnStar has recently been informed that Canadian wireless service providers plan to decommission their 2G CDMA network services starting this year, with more significant actions commencing in mid-2015. As a result, you can only renew monthly and there are no annual pricing options at this time.

In order to continue to provide OnStar services after the 2G CDMA networks are decommissioned, your vehicle will need a hardware upgrade. Once the hardware upgrade is obtained, 2014/2015 model year vehicles receiving RemoteLink Key Fob Services orOnStar Basic Plan services, will resume for the remainder of the five-year term. More details will be provided by January 2015. No action is required by you at this time.

Who pays for the hardware upgrade? The OnStar Remote Link for 5 years was part of the deal.

I figured they would find a way to screw us out of that too!

iheartradio works on these trucks? Is there an app for it in the system like Pandora? Pandora needs both the app built into the truck and the app on your phone to work.

Threw the phone, I do most of my music and radio threw my phone. It comes on as soon as I get in my truck some times I plug it in if Im driving more than 30 minutes.

Ok I'll play around with it. Admittedly I haven't used my phone for much other than blue tooth calls in the truck. I listen to XM mostly.

I must admit Im an older guy one of the grandkids put Pandora on my Iphone, said pick a song its great. My wife is a Rush L junky so on trips I can put my local AM station on Iheart radio never have to AM hunt anymore. It all plays thru Bluetooth or USB, amazing.

That's great to know! Now that XM doesn't broadcast all ACC sports anymore, I can use iHeartRadio to get Virginia Tech football coverage from the local AM station no matter where I go!

GM said that Verizon Wireless, which has been the company's wireless provider since 1996, would still support OnStar services for all existing GM vehicles and any new models that come out before the 2015 models are launched.

For how long though? GM won't keep two technologies that are incompatible forever.

Yeah remember when Verizon said if you had unlimited data plans, you would be grandfathered in when they switch to the capped data plan system and get to keep your unlimited data for as long as you are a customer? How's that working out for everyone now?

I love HD radio too... seems crazy that anyone would produce a non-HD radio any more! Maybe it make XM sound too crappy?

HD Radio around me is pretty crappy. Always going in and out of FM. I have it turned off anyways. Although I rarely listen to FM Channels. I have my XM and I am very happy with it.

HD Radio is completely independent of XM and has no effect on the XM listening experience. The XM signal is received by the small antenna mounted to your truck roof. HD/AM/FM radio signals are picked up by the tall antenna mounted to your hood. As for your MyLink system, XM, AM, and FM are different "sources" or inputs going into your radio. HD Radio is the ability for the radio to pick up certain frequencies that a non HD radio can not pick up and process. HD Radio is not it's own input source going into your receiver, but rather the ability for the AM or FM source to pick up alternate AM and FM frequencies that have a higher sound quality and clearer reception.

Separately, your audio quality is also governed by the actual equipment in your truck. For instance, replacing the stock speakers with aftermarket speakers will improve the sound quality. Completely replacing the MyLink system with an aftermarket audio system will also improve the sound quality.
