"Do you have really bad booming and pressure while driving on washboard roads

If so, I think you just unfortunately have a very easily tickled setup where even the music is setting it off"

You girls do realize you're driving a truck don't you?

Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

Some "girls" moan about folding side mirrors ... I don't recall folding side mirrors being in the list of things needed for "real" trucks

I also don't see GM buying back trucks over stuck side mirrors

I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 Crew LTZ 6.2L 4x4 with about 12k miles. Sometimes when after parking I fold in my mirrors. Every once in awhile one or both of my mirrors fail to fold in. It occurs more often with the passenger side mirror but occasionally it's the drivers side. Twice its been both mirrors. The problem seems to occur more often after the engine has been shut off. Has anyone experience this? If yes, what was the fix?

OMG I can't stop laughing.....LOL LOL LOL I have been thinking the same thing. My Yukon rides like a limo and I keep forgetting that this thing is a heavy duty 4wd TRUCK that will pull a camper AND a boat up a mountain and around the mountain at a 45 degree angle over boulders and even thru the river. This thing is heavy duty. Even girls love them. Every " Carolina Girl" in this state has one...or two. Thanks for the laugh Bear !!! Booty

These are awesome trucks that I like a lot, but they are not 'heavy duty'. They're built on a lighter duty version of GM's light duty truck platform. Payload ratings are not much higher than most minivans or large unibodys like the lambda's.

Well I have a feeling tomorrow wont go so well. I just contacted my salesman to see if service was open tomorrow and explained to him about the severe ear pain every time I drive this vehicle and his answer was just " wow that's weird I've never heard of that issue" it's gone to the point where I can barely handle being in this vehicle for more than 10 minutes that's how bad it is hurting my ears I'm actually sitting here at a minute clinic just to get my ears checked out that's how much pain I am in :( This is such a bummer because I really love the look of the vehicle to :(

Well just left the Dr. No infection in the ears is but can definitely see some abnormalities showing that there is pressure behind both ears. Funny thing is that Dr. remembers seeing somebody a few months ago complaining about my same symptoms Who had recently bought a new Chevy Tahoe and Felt like they were getting some sort of ear discomfort from driving the new vehicle. Crazy!!! She even wrote this down in my medical notes. Bringing the car into the dealer tomorrow I'll keep you guys updated.

Has anyone tried different settings on their HVAC? I ask because as even a GM engineer explained, its like being in a drum. I remember years ago when cars got better[tighter] in the sun the interior air would expand and pop out windows. Then they started installing little vents, small just enough to solve that issue. The new suv's are as tight as ever, for a quiet ride. So, if you open the HVAC to full outside air will it relieve any pressure? I assume it is not present in the summer when the windows are down.

I do notice if I turn off the ac recirculation button my ears pop and when I turn it back on my ears plug right back up. When I crack the front windows slightly I still have the pressure in my ears. One of the reasons I asked if it had to do with the radio at all it because in my vehicle certain radio stations makes it way worse. Really weird.

OMG Buy. Have you ever looked under your TRUCK ? The rear end and front end are huge. The shocks are HUGE . The rear differential is bigger than your ..............any thing you have ever owned. Good grief , it is built like a tank. Go under the truck and take a look for yourself. Like I said " Carolina Girls" love this truck. "Southern Girls" never complain about big rear ends........and big shocks and a little bit of a "rough ride" All the best, Booty

I fooled around with the windows one time and was able to get the front windows to crack open just a hair and I'm pretty sure the pressure sensation subsided, but the buffeting "sound" was still present. Trouble is, the windows have express-down feature and it's real hard to get them to crack open a small amount without going down too far, and then the wind noise is unacceptable!

There was a lot of talk about the sound system early in this thread. Won't repeat it all. One poster reported he solve his buffeting by taping some cotton balls over the microphones in the headliner that feed the "Noise Cancelling" feature in certain models. Problem is, no one else could repeat this. I tried. Cotton balls. Even pulled the fuse from the entire sound system, and did not help one bit. And, the models without the Noise Cancelling option also buffet, so it doesn't look like the sound system plays a role

That said, one of the checks on one of the GM service bulletins is to check the polarity of the subwoofer wiring! Might mean something. Might be GM throwing darts in the dark with a blindfold on!

Lol, as long as the Carolina girls go for it, its all good.

But as example, the 4wd suburban has a gvwr of 7500 lbs and weighs around 5800 lbs. So you have available payload of 1700lbs.

The 2016 3500 Suburban, which is fleet only, is made of beefier components. Things you mentioned like axles, transmissions, cast iron engine block etc. It weighs more, 6585lbs, but has a gvwr of 11,000lbs. So payload on that is 4400lbs. That's more than my 2500 Silverado. That's heavy duty! Probably rides like a tank.

I don't know if the 3500 Suburban would still have the buffering issue this thread is dedicated to. I suspect the sheetmetal is the same as on the 1500 version...

I found one today that slightly buffets but doesn't vibrate. It has ~200 miles on it and I have it for the weekend. The ONLY issue is that it doesn't have adaptive cruise or HUD. At this point, I am not sure that is going to sway me away from a truck that is pleasant to drive. There is another one on the lot that is newer but has roughly same mileage on it and is also manageable from a drivability standpoint. I put most of those miles on that one as it was given to me to use as one of the 12 loaners I have had throughout all of this. It has adaptive cruise and HUD. Have some decisions to make over the weekend but glad this could potentially be over soon.

Can your share your experiences with the new Yukon that you had for the weekend?

You are making an unfair comparison. The 2016 Silverado 15004wd has almost the same specs as the 4wd Suburban does. Does that mean you are also saying that the Silverado is not a heavy duty truck? I just fail to see the relevance of your argument. Of course a 1 ton equipped vehicle will have bigger and better components, that's why it can handle larger payloads.

Eric - yes, i would also say a Silverado 1500 is not a heavy duty truck. GM says the same thing. Not trying to make an argument, just commented on Booty's post about how heavy duty the components on these SUV's are.

What someone considers to be 'heavy duty' is really a matter of perspective. Coming out of a RAV4 a Suburban must seem like a tank, but in general GVWRs of 8500lbs and up are considered to be HD and there are noticeable differences in key components such as brakes, suspension, axles, etc.

Excursion was really the only heavy duty fullsize suv, and now the 3500 Suburban that is fleet only for whatever reason. The 2500 suburban offered in some model years sort of split the difference.

If you all want to split hairs, these are all light duty vehicles. The medium duty classification starts at 14,001 lb GVWR. Heavy duty starts at the 26,001 lb GVWR.

I would say why not compare the suburban to its competitors like minivans and similar SUV's for a more production digression.

    • I would be surprised if the diff's were not filled (with the cheapest gear lube) at the axle factory before being shipped to GM.  If you ever watched them building trucks they install the axles and all suspension parts with the frame upside down and then turn it over before its time to install the engine.     Too much gear lube in a axle can be worse than not enough especially with a lower quality GL where is get whipped up with entrained air (foam)  weakening its ability to lubricate.
    • This is the 6.6 gasser section of the forum, you should either delete or modify your previous post as it is misleading for anyone looking for factual information on their 6.6 gas engine.
    • Well....I've done my first intake gasket. Probably wrong, but...we'll see?   Ultra black on the china walls and 1/4" up onto the sides of the intake gaskets. Permatex High Tack (couldn't find Gaskachinch) on the head side of the intake gasket. I read wrong and it says you're supposed to put it on the mating surface of the head, not the gasket. Hoping it's like a PB&J sandwich where it doesn't matter what side the PB goes on so long as there's jelly. That crap is messy/sticky and I got a dab or two on the intake port openings, tried to wipe it off. Hopefully it won't be a big deal and will only aid in sealing.   Per instructions I left the intake (top side) of the gasket dry except for a light smear of RTV around the coolant ports. Wiggling the intake in there was a bear but I had help to free me of surrounding wiring/stuff but I was basically able to set it straight down lined up with the bolt holes.   I did not think to wait until the RTV skinned over but there probably was 5-10 minutes while it sat before installing the intake.   Bolts finger tight first. Then, followed the Chilton's manual pattern to snug them to 15 lb-ft.   Waited a little over an hour, and then did the final torque in sequence again to 35 lb-ft.   Yesterday I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and got my new "nut and bolt kit" (fuel lines) installed. Damn GM used security torx on the spider, which I don't have, so I got scammed at the local HW store for an off-brand security Torx bit set.   The new driver's door mirror arrived yesterday, so, there's a chance this thing could be running and road legal tomorrow? I don't want to get my hopes up.   This will be my first time stabbing a distributor, too. Although, lucky me, someone else marked the old distributor for removal previously, I did see that. (Someone's been here before!!). Engine is still at TDC so it *should* be just a matter of transferring the mark to the new dizzy and rotating it into place.
    • He has his dad’s newer truck he’s put away. He has several old cars he rotates between him and his family. I’ve seen a restored square body and a SS Chevy truck he’s sometimes drives. He did raffle off a new suburban recently. As much as he is watched if he drove new stuff as a rule we’d know it. It would be fine by me. I don’t care what people prefer. I got one more new one in me. I’d rather my wife get one. I can’t get her out of the Genesis. Don’t tell anyone. I want her to get an electric truck. I want to put a generator in the back. Just because. She hasn’t bit yet.
    • Yes, you must have seen my thread on the Blazer. HOT GARBAGE, but I love them anyway. I'm convinced every car guy has a soft sport for an S/T series somewheres. Probably even a Panther too, if I'm being an honest car guy. That doesn't mean they aren't junk. And they definitely don't get better with age. I sometimes play with old cars, but that's by choice. I don't rely on them and they aren't my everyday fleet.   Derek plays the common man on Youtube and that's no doubt where he started. Now he has Youtube money (and Motortrend, etc). You think his crews and his wife ride around in old beaters when they're chasing him and his wrecks across the country? No he's got newer and nicer stuff for that, you'll see glimpses of it in the footage.
