Bottle jack problem

Removed and used my bottle jack for the first time yesterday. Guess it's a one time use tool. It would only compress half way to its compact/storage size. Nice, now I can't get it back into its mounting bracket...I'll make sure my dealership has one in stock when I go in for my first service.

You can bet it was not made in USA or Germany.

And every Chinese made floor jack as well. I have gone through 5 of them in the last 10 years or so. The problem are lousy quality seals in the hydraulic circuit which cause these things to leak internally and not hold the load. And you cannot even get rebuild kits for them anymore.

I finally bought a pair of Sears 3 ton jacks. Yes, they too are made in China, but at least SEARS offers replacement hydraulic piston assemblies for them (but not seal kits).
