Trivial annoyances about your truck

set of keys to something maybe, that's what I do. (lawn mower shed / boat keys)

I would love the option if there was a smooth finish filler plug I could put in there instead

oh, and one more complaint:

seats that don't fold forward (I have regular cab) so the seat must be moved all the way forward to get behind it and it still doesn't allow enough room to see stuff back there very well not to mention there is no thought given to putting things behind the seat. a nice tray for holding stuff back there would have been nice

You really get stuck on the side of the bed, so just like last time I looked again. There are 4 trucks in my work car port, 2010 ram 1/2 ton, 14 gmc, 04 Z71, 3/4 Ford. The ram is the highest, 04 and 14 GMC the same, 2000 3/4 lowest, it has 256K miles so its probably just old. I have a 92 Chevy but its lowerd, you add back the 4 inches it would be close to the others. I don't see any big changes there.

that is because you aren't comparing 2wd 1500 trucks

the 2500's and up were always higher like the new ones

its really simple, get a 48 quart ice chest and stand on the side of a pre 2006 1500 2wd truck and try to put it over the side without hitting the rail, then try the same with these trucks made today.

unless you are over 6ft tall or on your tippy toes you can barely get it over, on my stock factory height 1998 Silverado 1500 I can put it over the side with ease and no chance of hitting the sides

most people who dont work out of their trucks have a hard time noticing or understanding how important over the rail bed access is, especially if you need to get into a bed tool box which requires steps or a ladder to be used for these trucks

and yes I am really hung up on this height issue because never in my life have I needed or wanted to lift or lower a truck yet I buy a $30k brand new truck that I cant use as I like unless I void the warranty and spend $1000 to lower the damn thing to normal usable height to get in and out of and have adequate over the rail access to the bed so yes im bothered by that.

1. wish i could configure mirrors to auto fold when i open drivers door

2. wish infotainment center would not display favorites as a menu with steering wheel controls.

3. wish infotainment center would next/prev pandora with steering wheel controls.

4. compared to nissan titan, gmc/chevy has very little storage.

5. tailgate lock could be auto locking without having to buy accessories.

6. need auto up on all windows not just driver.

7. NEEDS REAR AC VENTS!!!!!

8. wish the front seats were ac cooled and not just "ventelated" (peltier)

9. wish the phone holder in the front of the console didnt have a gap when you moved the cup holder all the way forward. drop lots of stuff there.

10. sunglasses holder is worthless

there are a lot of small minor updates i'd make. i've owned a ton of vehicles and i bought a loaded denali 6.2 because its the most luxurious pickup i could find....but still missing some small things that gmc really could have fixed.

The 10 ram is a 2wd its the highest. Im 5ft 11 inches. Ive been working out of trucks for 40 years. Up till few years ago my trucks had tool boxes, 50 gal fuel tank, air compressor and been 3/4 ton or one ton. Going over the side with a ice chest full of ice and drinks no problem, even in my 14. You could always lower it.

the bed rail on my 2014 regular cab Silverado 1500 is at arm pit level

every Silverado 1500 I owned before (92, 95, 98) all had the bed rail just below nipple height level

deny if you must

by the way im 5' 9"

  • a built in 4" lift kit from GM making it unusable as a working truck since you cant access the bed from the sides
  • the hood is too flat and unnecessarily squared off making seeing what you are pulling up against near impossible.
  • too much wasted space that could have been used to make the truck smaller lighter and better on gas.
  • gets worse gas mileage then my 1998 Silverado 1500 with the v8 350 engine even though its so super technical and all aluminum.
  • work trucks have no indicator when its in v4 or v8 modes.
  • very limited size of glove box and extra storage space makes them not very useful.
  • the drink holders that drain into the console storage box when something is spilled in it is a really bad idea and the guy who designed it should be fired

Did you not notice most of these things when you test drove it?

Interior Lights are useless.

Cup Holders that leak into storage

No drain holes in the front of the bed

My link that makes me dismiss every warning instead of automatically going away

Damn near impossible to squeeze a baby car seat in the back of the extended cab/ the back door should of wider

Oh and bed light can't be on while driving

Mine has drain holes? Like 12, a little one between each rib and a bigger one in each corner. And I think the cargo light thing is so that you can't forget to turn it off and shine at people behind you.. not that it's that bright.

But yeah, add those notifications to the list. do I need to be reminded that my phone connects everytime I get in? Nope.

considering its all computerized now and there are so many things different with this truck then from my 1998, then no I didn't have time or the ability to notice them all

the height I did notice but GM in their infinite wisdom decided they wont make a normal sized truck anymore (they call it midsized) so there was no Colorado or canyon options to choose from and since I was a die hard loyal chevy guy with blind faith in GM quality workmanship and standing behind their trucks if there is a problem, well I only wanted one brand of truck.

boy was I an idiot, but GM has cured me of that disease and now GM is the last brand of new truck I will ever buy so from now on its only going to be Fords or Toyotas for me.

one more thing to add to my list:

the radio that keeps turning itself off every 5 minutes if you are trying to listen to it in the accessary position waiting in the parking lot for someone. I guess they don't think we should ever just sit in our trucks without the engines running.

also, if you don't have the trailer brake controller, what's up with the tiny cubby hole they give you in that spot in the dash? What can you even fit in there, it's so small?

Wish mine had the brake controller, but I found a can of Copenhagen fits perfectly in there.

Pretty much love everything, only qwirk I've been playing with lately has been the pedals. They feel a bit further apart than necessary, the gas has a long throw to go down but then the brake is out in front of the gas. If I get close enough to make the gas feel good then sitting at a light with foot on the brake leg feels cramped, or out far enough for the brake then its a reach if you need to floor it. Still looking for the sweet spot. Makes for a lot of heel moving you don't have in other cars where you can usually just pivot with your heel in one spot. Kind of wish the pedals adjusted further back and the steering wheel further out. Maybe I just have short legs lol

Like the others I wish the v4 indicator was available on more screens and I also wish there was a gear indicator. At first I was always wishing the tach and speedo were reversed. since the instrumentation is offset to the right the left guage is more in front of you.

funny I was talking to someone the other day and I think the ergonomics really just come down to what you grew up with. Dad always had chevy's. When I rent a Ford or Dodge on vacations I'm always bitching the whole time since everything just feels not right. Buttons are wierdly placed, gaps between seats and doors. always feel comfortable in a Chevy layout.

Maybe Im missing something but it irks me that you can not turn on the dome light anymore, your only option is to turn on the forward two lights. This truck has many great attributes and it shows that someone took time on them. But when it comes to a lot of these little things GM really dropped the ball, they were better off leaving the option out vs installing it half aced.

Maybe you're is different, but mine has a button on the ceiling console. You push the driver side of it and it keeps them off even when doors are opened. Keep it where both sides aren't pushed then the lights come on when doors are opened. Push the passenger side then all of the interior lights come on. Sorry if I can't explain clearer.

I think he means there is no "dome" light at all, just those tiny dashboard pointing map lights that don't light up the seat or floorboards or truck interior worth a crap

there is no interior light to light the interior at night and that is just stupid IMHO
