I think he means there is no "dome" light at all, just those tiny dashboard pointing map lights that don't light up the seat or floorboards or truck interior worth a crap

there is no interior light to light the interior at night and that is just stupid IMHO

Mine has the map lights also for the rear and with all 4 on it lights up the cab just right. They're LED so they do pretty good, at least for me. Hell there's even a small LED light just for the cup holders. Also I think the way they designed it was where you could have one or all of the lights for someone else while you drive and the light not be too bright for you to be able to see.

By the way, that button I was talking about says "Door" on it.

Main issue: why the he'll did they change the rear end from the 13's? Axles are same size / spline count and same on the pinion splines. The pinion shaft and u - joint are larger however. Just don't understand, the ring gears are thinner than pervious years and the 13 9.5" 14 bolt was great. Sorry that was 3500$ and 12k miles with of aggression from the rear end swap built up.

-mirrors are too small; only other complaint. 5$ at pep boys for blind spot mirrors.

I have kept this one longer than my last 4 vehicles so I am happy! Plan on holding on to it for a while. Atleast till something better comes out which is a couple years away.

ahh, well I guess its just the regular cabs then. mine has ONLY the two small forward map lights and that's it, no other interior lighting what so ever

at least they gave you guys with the crew cabs more lights

-puddle lamps don't work unless you turn on the Vehicle Locator Lights setting - which I keep off because I don't like lighting up the whole area every time I unlock my truck at night

-should have auto-up on all of the windows

-should have came with a factory power tailgate lock

-I have 2 kids with booster seats and I help buckle them in, and it seems hard to stick each belt clip into the rear buckles (by feel without looking), I always have to climb up into the truck and look exactly for the buckle slot and stick it in. Maybe the buckles just need broken in some more as I haven't hauled my kids around that many times yet.

These help a lot:

I didn't think to look under your name to see what type cab, but when I was typing my comment I was wondering if yours was regular cab. You would think they would put an actual dome light on the back of the regular cabs. I'm also assuming since mine it a shorter double cab that maybe the 4 lights light up the inside of the cab a little better than the crew cabs, but it may not be a real difference.

Not a whole lot I can think of.

-I wish there was a manual release on the power drivers seat, so I could move it forward to put stuff there without messing up my seat placement (regular cab problems!)

-Gas mileage isn't quite as good as I like, lifetime is 13.1 L/100 (18 mpg) and that's 90 percent paved country roads. The one time I was in the actual city and not just into town is got over 15 (15.5 mpg) :(

-Wish I could set the radio to the clock screen while it's still on.

-The speedo needle doesn't read quite the same as the digital readout, and is slower to react to changes in speed.

I think this is what you are referring to. If you want the clock/date display to show while the radio is playing just tap the screen in the top right corner where the digital time displays, it will bring up the large analog clock/date screen with the radio still playing.

Maybe you're is different, but mine has a button on the ceiling console. You push the driver side of it and it keeps them off even when doors are opened. Keep it where both sides aren't pushed then the lights come on when doors are opened. Push the passenger side then all of the interior lights come on. Sorry if I can't explain clearer.

No what I am saying is when Im driving or sitting in the drivers seat there is no way to turn it on, like the older vehicles or most vehicles. You can only turn on the two lights up front.

All the recalls, got a new one last night, starting to lose confidence. I have a little tapping noise when I turn out of my drive way that I have been ignoring, I am not fond of going to the dealer and hearing ( this the first we heard of this).

I've got the 4" screen, so there's no way to select the time like you can on a touch screen.

Not trivial at all, the headlights on gmc are really bad. somewhat fixed with aftermarket HID bulbs, but correct aim is impossible.

Would like to have the side bolsters on the bucket seats adjustable like a while back.

Loved the old heated wiper fluid. Fixed with aftermarket.

Loved the old rainsense wipers. No fix avail.

The GY tires that have been standard on 20's since '07 are probably one of the worst avail.

That's it, love everything else. Best truck I've ever own or driven, just fix the headlights please.

Someone mentioned the old 6.2 felt better than the new one? IMO the new one is significantly better.

Lots of talk about interior lights, I love the new one's that don't blind me.

2002 suburban Annoyances- clunk in gear, lots of vibration and rattles, absolutely awful sound system, CD player wont work when its cold, poor mpg, not much low end, GM quit onstar on 02 so no more onstar, and the quality of carpet and leather is not the best. But the truck is a trooper :) i get mustang gt's 30-50 which is a plus

I thought the question was about the all new design 2014 trucks not the older ones?

if its the older ones then I have no mechanical complaints what so ever about my 92 or the 98 except that both dashboards cracked into pieces and fell apart after only about 8 years, a very very common thing since it is made of thin crappy plastic on the dashboards and from the looks of the defrost vents on the 2014 I think they too will crack and fall into the ductwork after 6-8 years because they are thin wispy little plastic too.

Darn. I didn't realize that. Yeah I agree that stinks.

    • I would have to read back to get a better picture in my mind of some of the other comments and what they were using for a driving scenario they based the fuel mileage off of. That is why the fuel mileage conversation is extremely difficult to make fair comparisons from. If I was to be living in town and only driving around town, light to light and some longer stretches that doesn't have a light every block, and the usual stop at a grocery store and the bank and so on and so forth, my fuel mileage even during the summer time would be so bad with my truck I don't even want to know how bad it would be !. Then add in winter time and idling to warm it up to clear the windows and driving through snowy streets etc, large heavy trucks with gas engines have NEVER been worth crap for fuel mileage and why some little pot licker of a car with wheelbarrow tires and a 1300 cc four cylinder non turbo engine was the ticket to using a mere fraction of the fuel over a full size pickup.    By the way my truck has the 34" tires as its a HC but not the BFG KO3 tires ( that was an option for my truck but the sales guy couldn't figure out what the tires actually were so that never got on the order until it was too late to change the truck order ). So what fuel mileage your getting actually sounds good for "town driving" and with my truck when I go to town the fuel mileage keeps increasing as I get closer to town because it takes quite a while to get the driveline oils warmed up ( and why it always shows better fuel mileage on the return trip from town because its already warmed up ) but once I am in town that fuel mileage average just keeps dropping the more I mess around town and then has to recover back to something reasonable again by the time I get home for an over all average.    I'd be curious what your sticker says for the factory weight of your truck, mine is close around that 7700 lb due to the options it has. But anyway the long and short is, vehicle weight, higher rolling resistance heavy tires and a hefty driveline and a relatively large gas engine make for crap fuel mileage in stop and go scenarios, all one can do is drive it easy off the line at each stop and as my dad had said over the years, drive like a raw egg is under your foot and that's the best one can do. Years back with a carbed engine and if the carb was getting a bit out of tune etc as would the ignition system, the fuel mileage on pickups with larger engines was just awful compared to what your getting. We pay the fuel price penalty for driving HD trucks over some little vehicle, that is the reality.
    • We had two Toyota’s with that engine in the mid 80s. We had 50 gallon fuel tanks, a toolbox full of tools, an air compressor and assorted parts for our equipment. We beat those up and down pipeline ROWs until we started buying diesel trucks. Then they became parts runners and first vehicles for our teenagers first cars. Our shop Forman wrecked them both two years apart when we hired him out of high school as an apprentice. Good thing he’s an excellent mechanic. It took awhile before he could be called a good driver.
    • I have a 2025 GMC Canyon Denali.   On a trip recently the engine failed.  The dealership diagnosed a bent valve and says there is a service bulletin that indicates to 'relace the engine'.  The truck only has about 14K miles and is under warranty.   The failure occurred 5/11/2026.   So far I have worked with GM Customer Assistance and Roadside Assistance.  Evidently no engines are available and nobody will offer a date when a new one will be.   Coming up on two months with no repair or timeline and no loaner from the dealership.   GMC Customer Assistance is 'ghosting' me and keeps closing the cases I've opened with no resolution.   Hoping someone can help me on how to escalate this issue.
