Trivial annoyances about your truck

...for anybody who works or lives on a farm or ranch...

Bingo.

The dealer, the GMC rep (and most other people I've mentioned it to) look at me like I got a third eye on my forehead. But when you are getting in/out and letting people in/out it is a major pain.

To the extent I will look elsewhere next time. And I am a major GM homer.

The 5.3 specifically.. the fact that I have to mash the throttle like 50% before the truck starts moving, then it wants to take off like a bat outta hell. Why give me this near 400FT lb tq engine if you're gonna make the ECU play stupid with this torque management crap?

I don't REALLY wanna get a tune, especially just to get rid of this.

but I mean really. a 6.2 will jump off the line like it's butt's on fire, whys my 5.3 gotta sit still like a granny at every stop sign in the county?

Also, the tiny little screen for my radio. I get not having navi, but that little thing is just so hard to read. I want the time HUGE. When you're on your way to clients, time is very important!

Hrmm.. negatives... nope. Nothin else. Love my truck.

I lived with the 4.8 in my '03 Sierra for 11 years, now THAT was a dog. The 5.3 in my '14 Silverado goes as it should when you ease into the throttle....guess it all depends on what you are used to.

I came from a 2012 camaro 2SS, 6.2L tire burner, so it takes some getting used to. Still, the 6.2L trucks don't do this. My 2010 didn't do this. I've gotten used to it somewhat, but I still wish it had normal throttle response.

Personally, I miss the days of cable driven throttlebodies.

Yes drive by cable is great. I've driven 2014's 2010's, and my 02 which is the last of cable throttle bodies and the response of cable is just wonderful.

My dad has a 99 2500HD. Every time I go to drive it I about burn rubber taking off.

I feel like i have the best drive by cable. It was the first year of the L59 flexfuel so it had bigger fuel injectors and fuel pump, also it had the last year of drive by cable! Haha i wish i could do that!

My biggest complaint: To change favorites with steering wheel controls you have to hit the button twice, once to bring up the menu, once to change the station.

Once the menu is up it doesn't last long enough to preview the station, which means you're gonna be hitting that button twice every time. That drives me f-ing crazy!! Even with the radio favorites pulled up in the dash all the time, hitting the button brings a new favorites menu over the one you're already looking at, how dumb is that?

Computer is not correctly calculating my MPG. It's been ~1 mpg high every time. I'm averaging 17.2 which isn't terrible, but I thought it would be better because I've been driving (to the best of my abilities) for maximum fuel efficiency.

only thing I don't like is the engine tick

has any body measured the height of the inside of the beds , my 2014 is 2" deeper then my 2000 that makes it harder to reach into

the steering is still mechanically hooked to the front wheels it has electric asset only , you can still steer it with out power

What gear axle ratio do you have? I have the 5.3 with the 3.08 gears and just being so high it does take more for it to get started but once it does it accelerates pretty good. My old 98 seemed to get off the line better but that's probably because of the 3.73 gears.

No rear air vents in crew cab for passengers

Cooled seats blow HOT air into the face of your back passengers

Sunglasses storage compartment way too small

FYI: the V8 –V4 mode will show up at the bottom right of your “Trip A” and “Trip B” drivers display screen.

*But, it should show up on all screens near the bottom.

You must have short passengers, It would hit mine in their knees, not their faces. I don't like the feel of the cooled seats. That's what annoys me, but that's just a personal thing, my grandkids love them.

there is a tech bulletin to direct the heat from the seats into the seat itself instead of out the back vents. i had it done, works. just doesn't seem to cool as well as it did before.

    • Congratulations Isttype, on your gmc. Really like my 2024 2500hd sle doublecab now with 85,500 miles.  I checked the oil today at 4800 miles since last oil change and barely reading on the stick.  I don't care if GM says it's Acceptable adding a quart every 2000 miles because that is 100% BS, It is not a 1966 Harley Shovelhead! Sounds like it's setting up a future failure like I had with my 1500 6.2l. Other than oil consumption problems, I really like the 6.6l gas and 10 speed is really nice.  Towed a light 4000 pound trailer last week and averaged 14 mpg.  I was pretty impressive that a 7300 pound gas truck did 14mpg towing, Later-
    • Long Term Cold Cycle Limited Testing   Back to the 1990's and XOM's million mile test. Since then there have been others and there will be more. Schaeffer's, AMSOIL to name two. Of these Schaeffer's is the stand alone which I will explain in a bit later.    http://papers.sae.org/600190/:   http://papers.sae.org/850215/:   Up to 75% of  engine wear occurs on cold starts. These two links (above) provide the technical reasons for engine wear. In a nut shell, and by a large margin, cylinder wear is what takes out most motors and even with a pre-oiling system that part of the engine is dry enough on cold starts and cold warm up to pierce Stribeck.   So when you put a motor, or a car, on a dyno for a million miles stopping only for oil changes, (yes fuel is uninterrupted) or break down maintenance, you are depriving the test of the most important part of it's wear cycle. Yes a million is then a pretty easy walk even for a mineral oil under those conditions.    How about cleanliness during the long test cycles? Same thing. Varnishes that stick rings and insulate parts are laid down by repetitive 'heat cycles'. It's the cool down the precipitates the varnishes. These long runs also hinder acidic attack caused by cold start richness and less than optimal cold start ring sealing. They hinder water formation and enhance breathing of the crankcase; the petri dish of acid formation, the first step in sludge formation, amalgamation and precipitation. These motors are also monitored and controlled for water and oil temperatures to within the "normal operating range".      https://www.swri.org/sites/default/files/sequence-iiih-test.pdf Note the test sequence in some boutique oils literature for testing, API IIIH, is not the standard used for the ILSAC G7 testing. Does that mean it is irrelevant? No, not as used. As used as a 'visual guide' it makes it's point. The G7 weighted piston deposit minimum is lower.      Back to Schaeffer's. That was a cyclical test of an engine in fleet service and not a dyno mule and if you saw the video it was not mirror clean but wear was low.    There are oils like BioSyn and other 'Renewable" source oils that taught cleanliness and have proven themselves in fleet testing. Havoline an other example.    The newest ILSAC G-7 test prioritize cleanliness, LSPI mitigation and fuel economy OVER WEAR. In comparison Porsche C30 Specification Verses ILSAC G-7 Specification below:      Some will balk that this graph isn't apples to apples and I will challenge that in that this graph represent the SPECIFICATION and not the any One Oil Performance.   It is absolutely possible to minimize wear, maximize cleanliness and mitigate LSPI etc., It just isn't cheap and currently I see none that are not walking toward profit over performance.
    • I don't think you will need a split, separate product, etc., the OBD port should be able to deliver everything you need. Since your device would be plugged into it all the time, it wouldn't miss anything.    Hardware in this case will be the easiest part of your project - ELM 327 devices will already deliver all the data you need. Reporting/software is where your advantage/marketability is.
    • I do too. I’ll never be stuck again 😂
    • It has happened to me a few times. I carry a jumpstart-tire inflator with me.
