2014 Slip Yoke Bump is excessive!

Ok, I'm so pissed about htis that i told my sales guy that I love my truck but I hate driving it and that I want the dealership to get me out of it and into another one. I will give you the complete history of my 2014 Silverado Crew Cab Z71 4x4 LT.

1st Issue: scraping or rubbing noise upon acceloration in we conditions that sounded like a wheel well liner rubbing agains the tire. Dealer could not find hte issue after several visots and complaints to the dealer and loosing 20 hours of vacation time.

2nd Issue: Leaking rear passenger side shock. Replaced the shock and, wait for it......, Issue #1 went away.

3rd issue: Develpped a click, click noise when breaking when the break is applied and again when the vehicle comes to a rest. Lost abother 10 hours of PTO at the dealership over several trips (not once getting a rental) and was told it was slip yoke bump. I even sat in my truck after a test drive with the service manager and he told me there wasn't anything they could do. Well, I drove it for three more days and went to the dealership and told them to fix the damn truck or throw it in the river. I was not driving it home with the noise. Miraculously, they found a problem. My rear shackles were les than finger tight creating allot of play inb my rear end.

NOTE: After the shackles were tighted, all break and acceloration noise went away. I was happy.

4th Issue: After towing our camper the first time, shortly after issue 3 was addressed, the click, click noise from issue 3 started to reappear. Each time we towed the camper it got worse. It's not a click, click noise, but more of a bump, bump. From a dead stop, say in traffic or at jsut at a stop sign, you let off the brake, then as soon as you start rolling, you press the break to stop. You hear a BUMP when the break is applied, then another BUMP when it comes to a rest. All of the while you can feel it in the steering wheel and Break peddle. They checked "Every nut and bolt" and everything seemed fine. I was once again told that it was slip yoke bump and there wasn't anything they could do about it. It's funny that that of the 5 Silverado pickups I have purchased new from this dealer since 2005 and this is the ONLY truck that I have heard slip yoke bump anywhere near this level, and yet this is the quietest pickup truck on the road today? BS! This issue has not been resolved.

5th Issue: We towed the camper to Florida from north GA for a few days of R&R. Well, after unhooking the camper we drove along the coast. Almost immediately the truck started 'chirping' when downshifting from 6th to 5th, from 5th to 4th, and from 4th to 3rd gears. It did not do it on the upshift. You can hear it in the truck and it is allot louder outside the truck. It's VERY easy to recreate this noise. We panacked and drove the Pensacola Chevy Dealership and had them look at it. They rushed in and saw some rust on the leaf springs. They sprayed lub between the springs and said I chould take it to my home Chevy dealership as soon as I got home. So, we put up with the chirping noise for hte remainder of hte trip. When we hokked up to return home, the truck was also chirping when upshifting now!!!!! What the heck? When we got home and unhooked the camper, the upchift chirp went away, leaving hte downshift chirp. So, I took it to the dealership 4 days ago. After doing a ride along and very easily recreating the issue, we noted that when you press the accelorator while running 55 in 6th gear, the churp occurs the second it shifts, but before we hear and feel the the power transfer to the rear end and the BANG of the backlash (different issue I gave upon after 5,000 miles). The tech stated that he thought it was an exhaust hanger because everything else is "in spec". Really? I lost my religion with the service advisor.

Update: I called my sales guy and told him that I want to trade the truck and that I thought hte dealer should do what ever they needed to do to get me out of that truck into another one. I think I have a lemon.

Amy I going crazy or do I have a lemon?

I don't know about "lemon" as each state has it's own laws and determinations on that...BUT....yes that would be absolutely frustrating to me as well for a truck to be making such noises when brand new. Heck my 8 year old truck doesn't even make that much noise. I would keep pressing your dealer and even get a hold of GM Customer Service to either get the truck fixed or seek a trade-in/buy back.

No, your not crazy, it just seems like a lot of dealerships want to sell vehicles but don't want to provide warranty repairs except when the malfunction is so obvious they can't down play it. Calling shit "normal" and "cannot duplicate" is their "get out of jail free" card. Not sure if they are just incompetent or tired of not getting reimbursed from manufactures for performing warranty repairs and diagnostics.

Unfortunately I cannot disagree, at least with the dealerships that I've had to deal with in the last few years. There must still be some good ones out there....I hope.

The chirp noise you are getting...it very well could be the exhaust flapper valve just behind the muffler as they are known to chirp , whistle and squeak.

As for the bump noise you hear...does it do it with a full tank of fuel?

How heavy is your camper? The unfortunate fact is that the 1/2 ton trucks on the market today are really no longer designed to pull anything heavier than a small boat or tent camper for any distance. The govt. fuel ecomony requirements have forced truck makers to use lighter duty materials everywhere they can to save weight and the result is wimpier trucks. The other thing is that probably 80% of the 1/2 tons people drive never see a load on the hitch, they are people haulers now so they put all the effort into a nice, plush, quiet cab and very little into making a robust drivetrain/chassis.

Sorry, but that is complete BS. Everything from the rear ends to the transmissions to the engines to the frames to the hitches to the brakes are bigger, stronger and heavier duty on the current 1/2 tons than they have ever been.

I agree

Somehow all these problems must be confined to certain states only. My local dealer here in central Florida claims that there are no problems to speak of with the new 2014 Chevy Silverado trucks.

I have to agree. The only setup that lacks towing is the V6 (still not bad for a V6) and the 5.3 with 3.08 gears. If I change my gears to 3.42 it bumps up towing capacity by 3,000 lbs and if I change it to 3.73 it will bump it up about 4,500 lbs. With at least 3.42 gears a 1/2 ton can tow more than the 3/4 and 1 ton duallys could 15-20 years ago. That seems like a long time, but that's defiantly isn't showing that 1/2 tons can't tow worth a damn.

GM customer care can help get you in another truck by calling your dealer. There are a few options. Cash assistance, Buyback, ect. There are a few guys on here that aren't making any noise right now due to being in the process of getting different trucks. I'm one of 'em. My THIRD 2014. I pray I get a good one this time. Good luck.
