Afternoon all. New Chevy truck owner here. Traded my 2003 Dodge 2500 HD HEMI for a 2006 Silverado 1500 Ext Cab w/ 152k on it. Must say I like the increase in fuel mileage. Only had it a week so far and I'm pretty happy. Been trying to figure out why I'm only getting 15 mpg doing 70 mph and when I do about 60 mph I get the around 18 mpg. Any thoughts? It still gets an average of 5 mpg more than my Dodge did and that's a plus with my wife taking a pay cut for her new job.

Welcome nice truck. What part of indiana are you from?

Congrats. Also as far as your gas mileage. It looks like you may have taller tires than stock on the truck? If so, has the computer been reprogrammed for the larger size. If it hasn't it will throw off your mileage.

It has 275/55/20 on it and matches the door sticker. I get close to the estimated 19 up to about 60mph. At 70 my rpms are about 2100-2200. Is that normal? Still happy with the increase from my Dodge.

The rpm's at speed would depend on the gearing in the differentials. At 70 I'm about 1800rpm so I'm thinking you must have 3.73 or even 4.10 which would be a hit on highway gas mileage. As with changing tire size, it's possible someone re-geared the truck and didn't reprogram the computer to match.

Thanks. I'll have to do some checking and research. But for now, I'm happy with averaging 16. My Dodge was averaging 11.5.

Fort Wayne. Work in Auburn. When I first bought a truck I told everyone it was my newest piece of hunting gear. ;-)

Cool central indiana here
