Hi all, this will be my last post on here, you all have been a great groupe, I have learned a lot on here and was always glad to have this resource of information available at my finger tips.Last week I ordered a new Ram, it will be a reg cab short box, like I have now, with the 3.6l v6, this will be the first time I have ever owned anything but a GM truck.I decided this time I would try everything and go with who ever gave me the best deal and Ram won by a long shot, now don't get me wrong all the trucks I tried out were verry similar and all seemed verry nice,Ram won price wise.I use my trucks for work and my work is hard on a truck as I am a meter reader so I generally get a new truck every three or four years as I wear them out that quick so getting the best deal I can is very important. I am excited to get my new truck but am also a bit weary because as I have stated I have never owned anything but GM. so long, Travis .

Congrats on the new ride! And yes, that is one tough job on vehicles!

Do you drive all day long, every day? Or do you have city routes as well?

Will you eventually be seeing smart meters in your area? Here in Mi, they have been rolling out the last couple years. We are suppose to be getting them in our area starting this next spring/summer.

Don't leave! Stick around to give us reviews of the truck. Comparisons are always good to have. You still have a truck, so you're still good in our book!

Can't blame you much, the new Rams are great trucks. I drove one while back in NH for thanksgiving and when I go to replace the truck this spring it'll be a Ram or a Wrangler. I want a regular cab pickup and the GM is severely lacking on space vs the Ram.

I do drive most days, right now my GMC has 150000 on it but has close to 6000 hours on the engine, thats a lot,the GMC has handled this very well and I hope my new Ram will be as tough. I do have city routes as well where I just park my truck and walk some or all of the route. Smart meters are out in this area cost to impliment is too high, we do have quite a few radio frequency meters though that allow me to read them from my truck as I drive by the house.

Yea you need to come back and give us a review on the ram. Thinking about trading my viberado in for one.

I will stay a member here and report back.

Our company is going with a cell based system. No radio frequency meters in use at all.

That is crazy you have 150k on your truck already!

Hi all, I had quite a few folks wanting me to give a review of my new Ram, so here it goes.I took delivery Mar 5, and now have almost 4000km on it, the first thing I noticed right away was that the ride was much softer and the interior was much quieter than my previous GMC, the cab is far roomier, the fit and finish is perfect IE, no rattles, and all gaps on panels and bumpers are perfect. The Ram has much more traction in 2wd than the GMC, but not as much in 4wd, The Ram came stock with sway bars front and rear but with that being said the GMC did handle better when cornering and such. The 3.6l engine in the Ram is an amazing little engine, it actually has more get up and go than my 5.3l did and I am getting terrific gas milage with it, although I am sure when I hook my 4000lb camper up to it I will see a difference, but that is ok because I only haul my trailer twice a year to the campground and back home again in the fall. The 8spd transmission is hands down the best gearbox I have ever used, there is no funky shifting and shifting is seamless, and if you just touch the gas pedal she will drop a gear or two and go, it is very smooth and responsive.

All in all I was quite worried about how this truck was going to perform for me and I was quite pleasantly surprised overall with how it is working out so far.I have been a GM man ever since I was 16 and have owned nothing else till now,and quite honestly after owning the Ram I feel that GM really need to up their game if they want to stay, as the Ram clearly outshines my previous GMC in so many little ways.

    • Pretty much zero rust on the truck, the frame is super clean. Non-snowy area of California for its whole life. They didn't mention JB weld specifically, just a silicone style seal.
    • Needs a manifold gauge hooked up and the pressures read.   If you don't have one, time to take it to a shop and have it diagnosed.
    • How rusty is the truck?     The transfer cases on these are an aluminum case.  If its anything like the rear diffs on the 2015-2022 Chevy Trax, those will corrode bad to the point it will push fluid through the housing via corrosion porosity or a crack from age/stress.    We have seen folks over tighten the drain and fill plugs on these transfer cases and crack them that way as well.    So I'd say its a 50/50 shot on re-sealing the case.  If all of the surfaces are good and its not badly corroded, they probably can re-seal it.  GM uses RTV to seal the case halves.   If they mention JB Weld, the issue is the case.  Be it a crack or corrosion.  JB Weld "might" hold if they clean EVERYTHING very well and drain the fluid out of the case and clean the crack and then seal it.
    • A while back, my truck (2018 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3) went in for an o2 sensor and routine service. The tech identified that my rear output seal on my transfer case was leaking, and recommended I have them replace it. At the time I didn't think anything of it, and had them do the repair. Less than a month later, I noticed that the recently repaired seal was leaking again. I called the shop that did the repair and they warrantied the repair and replaced the same seal again. A few months later, I noticed that once again the same seal leak had come back. It wasn't a great time to bring it in and I ended up just living with it for 6 months or so, noticing small (smaller than a baseball) size oil stains below the truck when it would sit for a while, as well as oil spray on the frame (to the point where it actually took the underbody coating off in that one spot). Finally got around to brining it in again, but this time I took it to a dealership service center since I am in a different part of the state for school. They identified the same output seal leaks and recommended they replace them. They also said there was no scoring on the inside of the transfer case, so it didn't need to be replaced. They chalked up the original repair failures to non oem seals and a job that wasn't done correctly. Now they called and said the seals are holding after driving/sitting for a while, but they found a very small leak in the middle, that they recommended they seal with some kind of silicone/jb weld (not sure what they are using). I haven't picked up the truck yet, but I have been reluctant about this whole repair process because I feel like they are just fixing the same thing that keeps coming back, and I am concerned there could be another root cause for the seal failing. Has anybody else experienced anything like this, or have any ideas on other things that could be the root cause?
