Buyer's Remorse...whooops!

I just bought a 2015 GMC Sierra brand new and while I love the truck, it's realize I should've bought a 3/4 ton and it also just sucks not having a manual trans anymore. It's taken me 2months to realize this... whoops. I've put 3,000miles on the new truck. It's paid for, but I'm looking at a discounted 2014 Ram Tradesman with the G56 manual trans now. I'm showing my complete ignorance here, but have any of you heard of a dealership doing a straight trade for a basic 3/4 ton with manual trans for my loaded 1/2 ton? What options would you all recommend?

yes, I have seen dealers doing a straight out trade for a car worth more.

I have seen them give cash back when trading a used suburban in on a new Hyundai.

Trading a used car for a new car of equal value isn't going to happen.

If your truck used is worth close to what the truck you want it, it is very possible.

More possible if the dealer happens to need the truck you want gone.

I test drove a new Ram with the G56, check engine light was on and truck ran like crap with only 4 miles on it...

I like the cool factor of the manual but the autos behind the diesels have come so far.

Any chance of your local GMC dealer trading you for a new Duramax?

Chances are your going to lose money. Dealers doing a straight trade i.e truck worth 40k for another truck worth 40k will not happen. They are going to want to make money on the vehicle they are giving you and the one you are trading in. If your trading for a used truck, might be able to barter a little more. end of the day you will probably lose money on the deal.

Sell your vehicle to someone looking for a new truck. A new 2015, loaded is in demand right now. You will lose money on this but you'll be in a better bargaining position when you go to buy another vehicle.

When you trade a vehicle in, the shell game begins.

With a straight sale, you either have cash up front or have financing ready to go so you can focus on just the purchase price of the vehicle.

Strips away all the variables and makes things much easier. They don't get to play with moving around figures on the boxes that they show you.

Good luck on your search.

Thanks everyone for your help! I went to the RAM dealer last night and test drove a '14 2500 Tradesman with the G56. It was ok, but kinda disappointing... The smoothness/plushness/fit and finish of my GMC just wasn't in the RAM, but it was a Tradesman after all so it's a super minimal interior. Also the 3/4 ton empty drove like crap compared to my GMC, which I was expecting. I'd imagine that with some weight in the bed, or pulling that would smooth things out. Honestly the trade that they were offering wasn't bad and the amount I would owe is quite minimal. After the test drive I decided I'm going to keep hauling with my Sierra for a bit longer.

My dad's 2015 Ram diesel is a pos. It's 12 - 15k less then the duramax for a reason. The Chevy and GMC will hold up better in the long run. I am still waiting for a Tundra Diesel. ......

What makes you think it's a pos? Just curious. edit:typo

Well we know the cummins is a great motor and that's where the great stops.... His truck has 15000 miles and has already gone through one transmission, and everything is falling apart. The doors have a problem latching correctly which is causing the amp steps to stay retracted down. The seats looks like they are 5 years old and worn. The list goes on and on..... he only tows a 32 fith wheel that is 12,000 pounds. The truck has been at the dealer more then it has been on the road. My brothers duramax that is 13 still runs new and he has a 40' toy hauler. ..... #itsthelittlethings. My opinion is GM makes a great pickup. Buying a dodge is like buy a Hyundai and thinking you have just as good quality of a lexus..... that's my 2 cents...

That's pretty typical for Dodge. I've never met a Dodge owner that didn't have a transmission issue with their truck. Myself included.

The old saying must still ring true: "If you can't afford it, Dodge it." No offense to your dad. I'm a former Dodge owner so I've earned my right to say that haha

Well I do love driving a manual rather it's a performance car, pickup or commercial truck. Hell I've even been driving auto with both feet ever since I was 17 (and no I don't ride the brake, I've taught myself not to) But, to lose money and downgrading both the truck and quality just to get a manual doesn't make much sense to me. Driving a manual performance car is one thing, but a manual truck isn't that big of a deal unless you use the truck for major off-roading where you would need to be able to shift yourself.

Watch it buster, I owned a lexus, and since have bought 3 Hyundais currently have a Geneses, aint going back. Geneses has gotten drivers choice awards 3 out of the last 4 years, Sonata the last 2. Accent 2, please don't compare them to a Ram, and do your research when talking about quality. LOL

So you prefer to ignore the elephant in the room ie: Ford superduty? Yeah, because while I like GMC HD's for their luxury and the alisson, the bottom line is the Ford superduty has outsold and been the truck preferred for actual WORK over both the ram AND GMC/Chevy.

I have plenty of experience w/ both GM and Ford HD trucks and I can tell you the Fords seem to age a little more gracefully...at the time the dodge offerings were not really up to task so I can't really comment on them.
