New Truck Collision Center

So I searched briefly for a thread about this and couldn't find anything so I figured I'd start one...

Here are some pics of my 2014 Silverado CC with 2700 miles. A woman who was not paying attention decided the arse end of my truck was a great place to stop today. Fortunately, a Sheriff witnessed the entire thing, right place right time? I was sitting at a dead stop, behind a school bus at a railroad crossing and she got me..Told the officer that was taking the report that she"didnt remember what happened and was not paying attention". Needless to say Im beyond PI$$ED. Anyone have any info on what may be involved with repair? New bed? New bed side? I cant open the tailgate as the rear quarter is buckled to the point of overlapping the tailgate.

Maybe I just needed to vent to like minded truck lovers, but I feel better already..

**Update 3.5.2015 went to the dealer for an estimate, $3200.00. That will cover a new outer bed skin, rear bumper, paint work, bed cap, mud flap, rock guard, Z71 sticker. Just a preliminary estimate, may increase after they start removing body panels.

Wow. That's too bad. My work truck got hit by a school bus in a similar spot and the repair shop just replaced that panel, not the whole box. Since your truck is new matching the color won't be a problem. Just make sure you get genuine GM parts and not some cheap knock off crap.

I just fixed my truck a month ago (had an unfortunate meeting with a guardrail). Had to get the hood, fender and passenger door refinished, and both bumpers replaced.

One of the things that all the shops mentioned was that there was basically no aftermarket/used parts available for these yet- fine with me as I wanted new parts put back on my new truck.

Also, you might be able to reuse some of the plastics on the bumper- I hung up the back corner pretty good just by the step piece, which twisted the hell out of the steel but the step just had a couple scratches. Your step looks like its toast but the "rear bumper pad" might be able to be straightened out. That's the plastic along the top and wrapping down the side. I used my old one too as it's a $331 piece of damn plastic.

As for the metal work, it's hard to say. Is it just local buckling or is the whole panel out of whack? Any tears? Is the tailgate itself ok?

Sure does suck getting your new baby all ****ed up so soon :(

i back into a post 5-6 years ago with my truck and did similar damage. Bumbper was fine. Truck was brand new so I demanded a new tailgate and side panel. Its going to come down to your shop and what insurance will pay for.

The bed I beleive is 4 peices. left right quarters, bed and tailgate.

Your truck looks almost exactly like mine did; same situation too. I was stopped at a red light waiting to make a right turn, she floored it for some reason right into the left rear corner of my truck. When they did mine they had to replace and paint the left box side, replace the rear bumper and my tailgate needed some paint work, but they salvaged the original one. My tailgate wasn't as bad as yours though, I could still open and close it.

You'll want to go after her insurance for diminished value to your truck.

What do you mean "diminished value"? Ive never heard of that before? Im pretty sure I get the concept, i.e. someone pulls a carfax now and the truck comes back as wrecked, but what are the steps?

Diminished value is exactly what you said. Your truck has been involved in an accident, it is now worth less money than an identically equipped truck that hasn't been in an accident. You need to inform the insurance company of the at-fault driver that you intend to make a claim for diminished value. You usually have to do this by mail or fax. They will eventually send out someone to look at the truck and they will make a determination of how much value has been lost and cut you a check for that amount. You have to be persistent with them though, they will try not to pay out and they are under no obligation to inform you that you are entitled to compensation for the loss of value to your vehicle caused by their driver.

PM me if you have any more questions about this and I'll share what I can with you from when I went through it.
