2014 Installed rearview camera with 4.2" factory MyLink display

I just finished installing a rear-view camera with the video displayed on the factory 4.2" MyLink display in my 2014 Silverado.

 

I used the http://gm-navigation.com/ system, which supplies a camera, a tailgate handle and wiring, plus supplies a reprogrammed HMI/MyLink module. The reprogrammed HMI module allows the video to be presented on the factory "infotainment"/MyLink display. Essentially working as the factory installation would work ... including the active lines.

 

The biggest problem ... You can't find the correct system on their site, but they have it. Also, they have a bunch of other upgrades, including Nav, etc.. http://autospatech.com/ is the same organization.

 

I've had experience with the mirror display and didn't care for that and didn't want a monitor on top of the dash. This system worked out good.

What kind of cost was involved in the kit. The smart phone app too is a nice app as well that looks like it can be added. Very cool.

There are other systems, which add a can bus module, which are more money. The package that I got was $443.00, including shipping and return of original HMI module. Not cheap!

Very cool. I went with the mirror mounted camera. I have the lines but they do not move. They seem fixed on the screen.

 

Mine uses the factory wiring and camera but they tapped wires off the bcm and ran them up the a-pillar and across the head liner and down to the mirror.

 

Mine was $1000. In hindsight, I shoulda gotten it done the way you did.

 

I'm working on getting an 8" screen for mine though, and will try to see about moving the camera system back into that when I get that far. Did you need to do any wiring under the dash or anything or was it as simple as plugging the camera harness in at the rear dist. block and plugging in the hmi unit behind the glovebox?

I had to connect power to the BCM and install an RCA pigtail into the HMI connector.

I don't have any reference of video quality, however I thought this camera was pretty good and it seemed to be fairly good quality after dark, as well.

Here are a couple of new pix, ... which haven't turned out awfully good, but better than the other, I posted. You can see the bumper at the bottom. I expect, if the trailer ball were in place, you'd be able to see it.

how did you get the power off the bcm? Crimp into some existing wires? Do you recall the colors? I'm betting my mirror has all this done for me. If I intercept those wires and bring them over to my hmi module instead of up into the rearview I might be able to have the factory 8" in dash act as mine.

Pin #26 Blue/Brown of the brown connector is the reverse wire.. used a T-Tap and spade connector. This is a mirror pic so may be a little deceiving.

This will be useful in the hopefully not so distant future. I didn't go for the 8" this time around because of cost to functionality. It gives me literally nothing except a bigger picture for the radio I never look at when driving, so I went for functionality. Console, fog lights..

 

I still want to do this though.

The reverse power goes to the cam only. I believe, I saw some cables on eBay to run from the mirror connector to the MyLink display.

Very nice. I got the backup display in the rear view mirror for about $500 self installed. Additional $300 for dealer installation. I had to buy an Onstar rearview (with automatic self dimming mirror/with camera view) which I like over the "stock" truck rear view mirror. It is also a slightly bigger mirror. If this was available when I did my modification, I might have gone the same way. But since I have a regular pickup w/o a cap/topper, I seem to like (got use to it) the one spot to look at the camera and mirror (two split different views) at the same time. The plus factor for me is the self dimming rear view mirror I like the best. There were no issues with the dealer getting involved to get it to work.

I hear ya'll at MVI are good fellas and can help me out with my backup camera.

 

My set up is as follows;

• RPO is IO4
• OEM backup camera installed
• New HMI with IO6 and programmed for backup cam. (navigation works perfectly)
• I updated my screen to the 8" infotainment, it came as a package with the HMI.

My dilemma;

when I pop my gear into reverse I get the backup lines that turn with the steering wheel but no image from the camera.

Am I missing a connection to the BCM or does the BCM have to be flashed in order for the backup cam to work?
