I need some advice. Never owned a diesel before but there is a 2001 Chevy 2500 duramax ext cab short box with 100,000 miles for 10k. Body looks to be in pretty good shape for year. Does this sound too high? Also any known problems with this years duramax? Any info on 2001 duramax?

Any truck that is 15 years old could have some issues. Not a bad price considering the miles and it's a diesel. I'd look it over with a fine tooth comb before you buy it.

The 2001 had the LB7 motor which had major fuel injector problems and are very costly to replace due to they were internal injectors and had to remove the heads to get to them. I have seen and heard the cost is around 3-4 grand for the job. Ask the person and try and get paper work to see if they were replaced and at what mileage it was done if there original walk away from it. The LLY motor came out in mid year 2004 and was not near as bad as the LB7 motor but did have some injector problems but those injectors were external and not near as costly to replace. If it were me I would walk away from that truck.

^ this. If he has paperwork on when injectors were replaced then it could be a good deal. You could always take it to a good diesel mechanic and have them look it over before you buy.

Just an update I found out the seller recently put new injectors in and also lowered price to $8500. Makes me wonder why dropped the price so fast but also that seems cheap for a 4wd diesel with 100k...

Sounds to me people have been looking at it and don't want it so he is dropping the price to get rid of it. Keep in mind old Diesels can be money pits if you start having problems with them. 100,000 miles seems extremely low on a 14 year old truck.

Also to watch for if the owner didn't catch the injectors in time or just ran it on bad injectors the problem is that the fuel will leak down on top of the piston getting more fuel then needed and get into the motor oil and fill the crank case up with fuel, not good for the crank bearings etc. Who knows is it a chance you want to take, if it were me I would walk away from this truck.

Regardless of whether its a decent truck or not you should buy it and sell it for a profit because if he wants 8500 and it runs and drives good that is a very good price.. Truck like that if working proper would go for aroind 15k near me
