Wednesday evening, the Tulsa area was hit with storms, tornadoes, and hail. Luckily I avoided the tornadoes, but wasn't so lucky with the hail. It made me sick to see the hail dents all over my truck.

What I'm wondering, what are the thoughts and experiences out there with Paintless Dent Repair ? Is it a gimmick, or does it really work ? Are there any long term problems with this kind of repair later ? The largest hailstones that I saw were about the size of ping pong balls, so the dents are not massive, but bad enough. I hate the idea of taking my truck in and having them replace all the body panels and repainting it, so I'm considering this other option.

PDR really does work and insurance will cover all of it. Ping pong size can be remove and it usually comes with a lifetime warranty on the repair.

Find someone whos been doing it for a long time and has dealership accounts not just some shady guy in the phone book

In your area I bet there is a hundred guys that do pdr. Go to your Chevy dealers used car lot and ask them who they use. Meet the PDR guy at the dealer when he's there. I've had 3 dents already removed on my truck from a PDR professional

My 2014 Silverado was pummeled with hail last May here in Virginia. PDR made it look like the day I drove it off the lot and insurance covered everything. If I were in your shoes I wouldn't worry at all. The worst part is being without your truck for a few days. It was cool they have this special lighting system that lets them see dents you probably would never pick up on with the naked eye. They found literally everything and fixed it all. It took about 4 days in the shop...dropped it off Monday morning and picked it up Thursday evening.

Well, that gives me some comfort in this process. There is a well rated body shop near me that say they also do PDR. I think I'll drive over and talk to them about it. Thanks guys.

Yeah just research the company and make sure they have good reviews. I took my truck to the dealer body shop and they did not do the work themselves. They brought in a 3rd party company that primarily does paintless dent removal.

I got a nasty door ding right on the crease of my door. An experienced PDR guy took his time and got it almost perfect!

Give this thread a read through. I know your dents are probably different but it's also easier on a flat surface than an crease. They shouldn't need to repaint unless the dents are so bad they removed or scratched paint.

I stopped at the body shop to talk to them about it and found out we have aluminum hoods on these trucks. He said PDR should work on all the dents except maybe the hood. They hire out the PDR work to a guy who comes to their shop by appointment. Anyhow, he said he would have to talk to the PDR guy because he thought he heard something about dents in the aluminum not responding the same way as steel. Anyone heard of this yet ?

4 post before yours guy said his truck was pummeled with hail & he said they made it look like new. I would think that his hood is aluminum too.

My hood was pummeled like the back wall of a gun range and it looks brand new after the PDR work. I too wondered about it being aluminum and them being able to repair it but the repair ticket doesn't say anything about them replacing the hood completely so I assume they were able to remove the dents just fine. I didn't ask though.....

I think aluminum body work becomes a big issue for huge body damage areas and large scale accidents. The slight indentations from hail and car doors and shopping carts or whatever aren't that big of a deal to remove. As much as I'm not a Ford guy, I really don't think they'd commit the best selling truck in America to all aluminum if they didn't think the process through including body work. GM is just riding the anti aluminum PR train until they sell out of steel trucks and convert to full aluminum in 2018 or so. They've already admitted this is coming.

I was kind of surprised when he told me about the the hood being aluminum. I really hadn't heard or read about that anywhere yet. The guy I talked to said he wasn't sure, but I guess if it can be done as PDR, thats what I'll go with.

Mine got wrinkled on the passengers door at the bottom, we had a lot of snow here and I guess I either ran over a bank or someone got me in a parking lot, either way the body shape wanted 680 bucks and they had to respray the bottom of the door. The paintless guy in my area did it for 120 bucks in 45 min. Can't even tell it ever happend.

PDR works! We had a hail storm come thru in 2006 and got my 01 Sierra on the hood and roof. I took it to my regular body shop. They called the PDR guy in and by the time it was done you could not even tell it was ever there. Just get a reputable body shop. They probably already have one to call in if that whole area got hit.

      Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.

      Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?

      Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.

      Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.

      I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
