Is it just me or has anyone else wondered why GM didn't make the passenger side window an auto up just as the drivers side window? I know Ford does it. Wouldn't it make sense? Also why not the rear windows too?

its probably cheaper to leave them as the non-express windows. Hell, why didn't they put in footwell lighting? HIDs in the projectors? A light under the hood? Vents for the rear seats other than the floor vents? Heated seats in the rear (pretty sure you can get that in the Ford crew cabs if front seats are heated)?

All because its cheaper for GM not to do it and so they can maximize profits. Cause adding $2 to the cost of each vehicle to add footwell lighting would've made them lose $2 Mil per 1 Mil trucks made

No you are not alone in this. I was wondering why my dads 2012 F-150 had them and my 2014 Sierra did not as well.

GM is not a leader but more like a follower in many ways. I feel GM is years away on certain items options where Ford and Ram etc. are throwing the dice and getting it right out there. Let their customers get the "higher sticker price shock" first. GM adds things (new options etc.) slowly. This way they keep the base price down (low end buyers). Catch the people on the higher end (keep interest in their product - with new options) by getting higher prices or until they make it standard equipment (cheap enough for additional attention) to get people to continue buying their (GM) new vehicles. At one time power windows was expensive and now full body aluminum is coming into place etc.. In other words, this could be by design to keep GM look more "reasonable priced" in the market and add items at different times accordingly to keep it that way.

 

This could back fire because people are now in the driver"s sit and these new generations want things now and can't wait. Henry Ford once said you can have any color vehicle as long as it was black.

I believe Audi has had all windows as one-touch up for years. Some models of GM will have it on the driver's door only, others will be driver's and front passenger's. It's a programming change only for them to add it, but they can get you to pay more if they offer additional window controls on higher trims.

 

If you look in your manual, there is information about "re-programming" the auto-up feature on the driver's door after a power loss (I believe I saw it in the section on the window controls, but it might have been in the maintenanace area under changing a battery). If the driver's door can be re-programmed like that, they are ALL available to be controlled with one-touch by a programming change. It MIGHT require a different switch that can transmit two different signals (momentary contact and permanent contact), but I don't think so.

Can't be done. Much more than a switch. The programming refered to is just relearning the up and down stops.

If it's more than just a software setting, I'd be interested to see the electrical diagram of the components involved. Then I would be interested to see how easily it could be hacked.

There was a thread about this a while back and somebody researched the changes required - it was quite extensive. Different harness and motor on the driver window - something like 7 wires instead of 4. It wouldn't be easy.

Different motor? Must have something to do with supporting anti-pinch but also being able to communicate the position that the window is in (otherwise the anti-pinch would kick in when it hit the top of the travel and pressed into the seal).

Also speaking of the auto up windows. Even my brother's 2014 Ford STX has auto up windows on both sides.

So they can give me 3 cigarette lighters, 5 USB ports, 1 SD card reader and 1 120V outlet but they can't install a simple auto up function on my passenger side window? What a load.

Actually, the GM SUVs have auto up on the passenger window. How about that!
