Ok, so i got looking to find a shorter way into the cab while i was hooking up my new Rigid fog lights. The grommet is nothing more than a plug, no other wires to deal with. It will accommodate a half inch diameter bundle of wires.

Right by the top driver side door hinge there's a grommet that leads right by the parking brake.

The oval hole in the fender is a close distance away and clear of the door hinge.

any path through the driver side fender will lead to the door hinge. Just the standard coat hanger needed.

The grommet is easily visible from this clear area by the parking brake. While routing just keep it routed away from the linkage.

Thanks! I'll look at this for my Rigid fogs which I hope to throw in this weekend. Are you using the switch that comes with the Rigid lights or did you get a different one?

I'm currently using the rigid switch it came with. Plan to splice/extend the battery or switch wires about 1-2 feet, it's not quite enough since the battery is on opposite side. I didn't wait for the adapter pigtail to use stock wiring. I also have no tow hooks and thought about trying to fit the factory lights and housing into the hook cutouts and run them back on factory wires, having two sets of fogs.

Did you seal it up with anything or push the grommet back in there with the wires going through? Just wondering what you did to waterproof it.

I didn't do anything extra to seal it. The bundle of wires had a smooth roundish wrap that was far larger than my hole. I was thinking it would be alright.

Any updates on this? No water in the cabin? I've been trying another route (the nipple on the large grommet in the firewall) and I can't even find that thing in the cabin. I fish a wire in and it just stops. I think its behind the power junction box or something.

I was just concerned this area might leak.

I used that nipple on the gromet where the main wiring harness goes into the cab for the kicker sound gate. It absolutely sucks 100% to get wires through, but once done is very clean. There is a black junction box with several plugs that i had to remove under the dash to get to where that gromet comes. I had to push a bunch of wire into the gromet from under the hood, then go under the dash and jam my fingers in there and pull it out because there is a gromet on the interior side to form a chamber. I also used the gromet under the floor where the emergency brake comes though for the pop & lock.

I decided to use the doorjam grommet. I was running 2 14ga wires through it. I made a small hole but when I pulled the wire through it split the grommet a bit. I taped the harness to the grommet to cover the split and put it back in. Hopefully not a problem!!

It doesn't LOOK like this area gets water running through it, but.. ya never know. Better safe than sorry.

I haven't had any issues with it yet. I used the plug under the floor for the pop and lock when I ran wires last year. As I was doing the wires through the door grommet I noticed the foam under the carpet was damp. I don't imagine it was from the plug under the floor since I avoid all the puddles I can. I guess its just from getting in and out with wet shoes. I'm going to be keeping an eye on things anyway.

if I get leaks with it I'll probably take it out and put some silicone in and around the wire. I have rubber floormats though so I may not notice if the carpet gets wet.

wow, what a lifesaver this idea was - so easy just to go through the side grommet/plug instead of through the firewall - thx for posting this solution up, you saved me a lot of anguish
