Absolutely. A 4 cylinder Camaro is good for the overall Camaro business case as it results in more sales volume, and more money to pour into R&D and special edition models. If the Camaro was restricted to a V8 only model, it wouldn't survive very long at the prices that everyone wants to pay for it.

 

Same deal with Porsche and their SUV's. As much as everyone thinks that Porsche SUV's are blasphemy, they are providing the income for the other R&D projects.

 

Car companies are in business to make money, and us arm chair enthusiasts who will only buy V8 models aren't enough sales volume to keep them in business. Sports cars and muscles cars can't do that on their own.

 

but you can be Assured that the Camaro Purists WILL NOT Be Happy about a 4 Banger Camaro; and it was likely the same story when the 2.0L EgoBoost was unveiled to the public for the Mustang: the Older Mustang Purists likely remember the old 2.3L Turbo 4 (and its wimpy N/A Cousin) that was in the Fox Mustangs of the 80s (and an Engine lineup they would rather FORGET about.)

I think that applies to fans of ANY vehicle. Heck, I've been around here long enough to see GM truck fans do it with every new generation. Not everyone is going to like change.

The new Camaro sounds pretty promising. 455 hp in the SS with magnetic ride, and less weight. Could be impressive.

That's what I thought I saw earlier too but Duelin's post from the GM website says 455 hp and 455 torque from the LT1

Yeah, I bet that leak I posted and the pics were all deliberate from GM. The pics and specs were all "toned down", and so it lowered expectations. The actual look hit harder that way.

Profile looks like a Hyundai. If GM can get the aero on a big square front end of a full size truck right then why not go with more of a classic look? The Camaro should not look like an import with the profile of a flat jelly bean.

 

Should have explored maybe a second gen body.

If they would have followed the updating gen2 ^ route there would be complaints with that as well. They went too far, it does not look exactly like my old '71 & on & on.

 

The over whelming response that I am reading is that people are really looking forward to this car. There is & will always be dissent & those that switch away from the brand.

But that happens with every iteration of any brand/model. Only time will tell if the internet response translates to more sales of the brand. Personally do not see these sitting

on the lot very long at all at introduction.
