RyanbabZ71 Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 When do you guys normally replace your tires? My BFG's have appx 7/32 to 9/32 tread left. BFG have the 275/70/18 listed on their site so I assume it is 16/32 starting out I have just over 25K miles (3 years) on these tires. The 6.2 is a bear on tires it seems
newdude Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 5/32 to 4/32 is the lowest I go. The guys at the service desk at work recommend 4/32 as a replacement time, especially for family vehicles (one or more child). Sad part is we see people just straight run them bald with 3 car seats in the car.
RyanbabZ71 Posted May 28, 2015 Author Posted May 28, 2015 Yea I am not running them bald. We will see how they are this fall.
Chris Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 lol not in a state with winter.Helps with traction. Dont need chains
kstruckcountry Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Your tires should have a final wear bar that makes it pretty obvious when it's time to replace.
wurgs Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Your tires should have a final wear bar that makes it pretty obvious when it's time to replace. +1 I've experimented with my work trucks and it seems like the wear bars are a good indication of needing new tires. In the snow if they get worn past the wear bars they are worthless ( after digging myself out for the 3rd time I finally broke down and got new tires) and even in summer there is a big hydro planning concern if in an area that gets a lot of rain.
MMC Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I replace mine as soon as I look at them and question if they need to be replaced, hydroplaning is no fun and tires are cheaper than hospitals.
Cowpie Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Not to mention the fun with lawyers if someone wanted to file a civil action. In today's lawsuit crazy world, it would not be surprising.
99silveradoz71 Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 On my '99, I replaced the factory set at 3yrs/36k. On the 08, I replaced them due to the age.
desrtrat Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 i go no lower than 4/32 if possible. my last set i just replaced were at 5/32, but i was getting cracks around the beads. so after 5+ years, and 50k miles it was time..Kumho's 275-55-20's
Chevor Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 I wear them down to 2/32nds. Its summer. I have multiple sets. Deeper tread goes on in the fall before first snow.
