And yet another truck with paint problems

For what it's worth new F-150's and Ram 1500's have a lot of paint issues these days too. Seems like the chemistry of automotive paints just isn't as good as it could/should be.

It's not just the "domestics" apparently pretty much all mfgs are having issues.

That said... I would have had a heart attack if I had seen that on my truck.

What I noticed is that paint is much softer on new cars and trucks. It chips a lot more easily. However, paint flaking off as shown in this thread is not acceptable even by Yugo standards. My 2006 Silverado original paint does not have a single flaw to this day that i could find. I also have a 2013 GM car and the paint, while soft, is not flaking off anywhere either.

All the newer cars I've had chip really easily including my sierra...

I had the same problem in one spot on my front passenger door. I just got it back this week, and the body shop did an excellent job on it. I guess I need to call gm and check on an extended warranty on the paint.

Was doing an hand wash on the truck last Monday night and well paint is peeling from the bottom of doors on both sides of my 2014 Sierra. Brought it to my dealer and the collision dept. manager was able to scratch more off with his nails. It will be warrantied but they can only take me in in a month in a half! I Love my truck but the fact that it will now have paint that's not original on it kind of takes the "shiny and new" factor out of it.

I don't trust body shop paint will outlast what original paint is expected to and will more than likely be looking to trade that truck in earlier than expected for another make before the "new paint" starts to peel again.

and you have mudflaps!! can i have your pictures? lol my 2014 is peeling and if they start giving me the gears about bigger tires and no mudflaps im showing these pics lol

For sure. There is a bulletin out for the paint and the dealer did not argue a bit when I showed that to them. The collision center manager was able to scratch what was there with his nails so it helped haha.

Actually, it had nothing to do with color. I was expecting it not to match perfectly but I could not see the difference. It was mostly about the workmanship. I expected better from a professional shop and the service dept of this dealer has been nothing but the best so far so hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

Peeling paint like this is usually caused by improper surface preparation, i.e. some oil or grease film left on the surface to which the paint did not adhere properly.

I am now on my 3rd High Country - a 2015 2500 HD duramax and EVERY ONE had paint problems. My current one has been back to the dealer to repaint the front bumper and now it's peeling AGAIN! I've been a GM guy now for 35 years and my other trucks are also GM. I'm a third generation GM guy and am completely dissatisfied with my new truck. I guess $65,000 was just to cheap to pay for a new truck. Since I'd rather not spend more than that and I get no satisfaction from the dealer I guess it's time to look at Ford or Dodge. DID I JUST SAY THAT!? Oh well ya gotta do what ya gotta do. You'd think GM wouldn't want a premium truck and it's owner running around looking and sounding so bad. If anyone is contemplating buying a new GM truck... DON'T. Besides the Silverado my brother has a new Denali HD with the same problem. A $68,000 "boat anchor".

It is really strange that I own a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic, which I got for under $ 11k brand new, and the paint is in great shape after 3 years, no peeling or other defects. Of course the car has a soft plastic one piece front end which means that the paint they used to paint that part has flexible agent in it, which undoubtedly helps prevent peeling and chipping. The paint on my 2009 Impala LTZ has held up well too.($31k sticker on that one) I can't understand why should paint quality be so poor on your much more expensive truck. Is quality and price inversely proportional at GM, or what?

Not sure but ALL my other trucks are fine. Even my 2004 GM van with 230,000 miles!

Yugo's haven't been produced in quite some time. But I bet the paint on them was better than what is being put on all the new vehicles now a days.

The biggest problem with Yugos was that the body sheet metal was of very poor quality with all kind of impurities in it, so the cars would rust very quickly.

Oh yeah. I guess it isn't a boat anchor since boat anchors wouldn't have so many unresolved paint issues. My apologies to to all boat anchors.

Boat anchors are usually galvanized (hot dipped in zinc), so they are quite corrosion resistant.
