whats everyone doing for flag poles

Ive been going back and forth with how to mount dual flagpoles in my truck. The only rule I have is no holes in the truck itself. But i keep going from wood to pvc back to wood etc. I am going to use 3/4 EMT conduit for the poles with an eye bolt and anchor shackle to attach the flags. Where i keep losing myself is how to mount them to the truck

I thought a "+" wooden brace that lays flat in the bed from cab to tailgate and between the wheel wells, with a built up section for securely holding the flagpoles. Then I thought that same thing with PVC tube holders. I want this thing to be able to handle my drive to work in the morning with no risk of becoming a javelin of freedom to the person behind me.

i was thinking of building a box out of 2x10s to fit between the cab and wheel wells then put pv pipe to hold the flagpoles on that. My only worry is that the box would move at any decent speed

They sell flagpole holders online that go into your handpockets at the rear of the bedsides. There is a hole already there if you look straight down and thats where it bolts up.

link? Id like to run one on veterans day memorial day and 9-11

I bought a hitch flag holder from Amazon, made by Camco. Works pretty well. Then I went to Home Depot and built the pole itself by cutting a 10 ft x 2 in PVC pole in just a little over half (chopped about 4 ft off), some hose clamps and marine anchor holders. Holds up well in driving at 60-65 mph.

A piece of 3/4" EMT will support a very small flag at highway speeds. The length of the pole and size of the flag, along with the speed will determine the necessary bending strength of the pole. I recommend you go with a hardwood pole.

the EMT held up well with a 3x5 flag up to 55 mph. Felt that was stronger than the stadard aluminium or wood flag poles. Im sure i can go exotic and get some sort of hardwood but well see how it holds up.. Ill take pictures of my finished set up a little later

A small increase in diameter makes a huge difference in bending strength, regardless of material.

very true. maybe upping to 1" (id) tubing would be a good idea. well see how the 3/4 holds up this week

there's also the slots in the bed to hold a 2x8, or 10, or 12, whatever you want already. don't think you'd need to build a whole box. I'd just mount it to that board and it's not going to move around. If you are doing some kind of huge flag you could run a strap or something between the front and rear cargo hooks that are low in the bed as insurance that the board doesn't go up.

Which slots? The ones in the rear?
