Onstar Diagnostic Report - Action Required Headlamps

I got an email today from OnStar with my monthly diagnostic report and my headlights are indicating they need immediate attention, however they work perfectly fine:

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with swapping out the original bulbs and flashing the BCM.

Has anybody else seen the same thing whether they've upgraded the stock lighting with an HID system or kept the stock system and are waiting for the dealer to perform the above mentioned bulbs and BCM flash?

It could have. If there are any codes in the BCM not cleared out that might be what OnStar is reading. Did you have the bulb upgrade at the dealer? If so the tech may not have checked or cleared any codes in the BCM.

No, nothing at all. I'm going to hook my code reader up to see if any codes are present, but I did my HID upgrade in December shortly after I bought the truck, and they've worked without issue since the installation. I took the truck in for it's first oil change at ~7,000 miles and this is the first OnStar diagnostic report since the dealer had it, so I'm wondering if the dealer would have done anything, but I doubt it for just a normal service..

It didn't pull any codes, so that's very confusing. Don't know how or where OnStar is getting the data from...

if you have hid's then there are codes in the bcm due to the hid's so that is why its giving you that report.

i bet if you installed some sort of load resistor on the headlight circuit that code would go away,

i get the same code on my cadillac for the license plate lights because they are now LED

I got the same message in my Onstar report email that arrived this week. The strange thing is that the HIDs have been installed for several months and the previous report did no flag them.

Possible the reporting software (that generates the email) was updated recently to detect a new issue that might have been in the data for a while... I'm sure there is a far more complex reporting internally, but to surface an issue to the customer must be some bar.

BCM codes are not able to be read by auto store code readers.

Simply call onstar and ask? Thatd what i would do

Why would anyone care what Onstar says?

I don't care as long as it doesn't throw a code to the dash.

I am using the passenger side headlight signal with a cap to power the Morimoto TRS kit relay.

Yes I think you need to add a load resistor to both headlight wires to get rid of the message.

Funny thing is the dealership now plugs into the OBDII port as soon as you roll the vehicle into

the entrance bay. This was for a state inspection only. I guess they are looking for anything they

may be able to charge as warranty work or directly to the customer. They said nothing so I'm not

sure if they read the BCM codes or just the ECM.

Not concearned what on star says, however I would prefer not to get into warranty issues with the dealership if I have any electrical problems
