Is anyone able to tune the 6.2l/8-speed?

More so the 8 speed as the 6.2 has obviously been tuned for a while now. I sent a email to Blackbear back in February of this year and they advised they did not have the tuning capability of the 8 speed trans at that time. I've re-emailed them to see if thats changed.

Has anyone found someone/tuner that is able to tune the 8 speeds? If not, does anyone know what the hold up is?

Probably not many people yet. It took a bit of time for the tuners to "hack" the 6 speeds. So they gotta do the same for the 8 speeds.

That said. I would hold out until Blackbear can do it. They are the best in the biz. Hands down. Don't waste your money on any other tuning. Blackbear all the way.

What are you wanting to change? I can do minor adjustments like shift points, minor pressure mods and TCC application, but that's pretty much it right now. The only thing in Trans Torque Management that I can do is turn it on or off.

Call Chuck at: http://corvettes-of-westchester.com/ He is on the beta test team with EFI Live and has the capability to tune both your 6.2L and 8L90e. Was going to have him tune my truck but have been having problems with it and don't want to void my warranty. Chuck is a magician with his tunes. I don't know what he does or how he does it, but his work is quite amazing.

Hey guys,

About 3 weeks ago I took delivery of my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Double Cab with the 6.2/8 speed. So far, my experience with this powertrain has been great. The power is very

good and, quite frankly, in city driving I need to watch my speed given the fact that it is so powerful. I can't think of anything I would want to have changed in terms of a 'tune' of the engine/transmission ECM. However I realize that, because you guys know more than me about these things, believe me you do, I would appreciate if you would educate me on what you think can be improved on from the factory based on the performance you're observing of the 6.2/8 speed in stock form.

thank-you,

Peter

For what it's worth, I should have mentioned that the unit is a June 2015 build.

Peter, congratulations on your new truck. A tune is probably the single biggest thing you can do to change the personality of your truck besides a blower or cam change. Our trucks run extremely rich from the factory. I do not know the reason for this but believe it is so the catalytic converters will "light" and continue to burn hydrocarbons and make the exhaust environmentally friendly. A tune will lean the fuel mixture and set it to optimum levels throughout the RPM range, remove the speed limiter which I believe is set to 99 on our trucks, it will change the spark curve to optimum levels for power and torque, change when the fans turn on and to what level, etc, etc, etc. In essence, the tuner changes the factory tune to a custom tune. They can be good for 20 ~ 30 HP, make your truck much more fun to drive and provide improved fuel economy. Combine that with a set of quality headers, air intake, free flowing exhaust, ported and polished throttle body and you could see as much as 50 additional HP from your truck. All this is fun and makes your new truck yours but remember, a tune will void your powertrain warranty so consider it carefully before taking that step. Are you willing to accept the risk in case of engine or transmission failure? Most of us are or we wouldn't be reading these pages. I read on here a few weeks ago that someone posted this or something close to this: "the amount of money you spend on your truck is directly related to how much you read this forum." I am 95% certain he was spot on. The more I read this damn forum, the more it costs, but it's all good fun. Read some of the pages about people who have tuned their vehicle. All of them sing high praises, including me. Until you experience the difference in a custom tuned vehicle you just can't understand it. The question that often comes up is: "why don't they do this from the factory?" I am pretty sure it has to do with emissions and warranty claims. Enjoy your new truck!

Peter, congrats on the new wheels.

Mine was built late in 2014.

Was in for a programming update yesterday (recall, according to dealer) to eliminate TCC shudder. (which is an indication that the complaints about the way this trans operates were not people's imagination)

Hopefully this means mine will now drive a nice as your June built truck.

I'm still waiting for trans support for these 8 speeds as well. I have my truck on a generic Diablo tune and it helped a little but not much. All I really want it a couple hundred more rpms for WOT shifts and have them firmed up.

We can tune them.

Can you tune the 8 speed transmission or just the engine?

Both engine and transmission.

How much shift pressure does the TCM command for the 2-3 shift under full throttle on the A8?

Why is this important for only the 2-3 shift?
