Got hit today....t-boned

Glad you are OK and nobody was injured. Just look at some of the pictures above and be glad it wasn't worse. It hurts, but life is not perfect and stuff happens. Do some research on the body shop you use. Hopefully they do a good job and you won't be able to tell it ever happened.

In the beginning I wasn't a big fan of the dash cams because I didn't think that it would make a lot of sense. I was questioning the price you have to pay for a good one which I felt was more a fun part.

That changed when I witnessed a bad bad accident. One younger guy crossed an intersection ignoring the red lights and hit another truck really hard. Both trucks didn't look too good at all. On top, the one who got hit got hurt.

The dash cam which I thought wasn't a big deal showed the whole thing.

The insurance company contacted me asking to send in 'the video' because there had been some issues with the statements.

Even I'll never buy a new truck l'll sure buy a dash cam. Too many ignorant people out there. Better safe than sorry!!

I loaned mine out and he side swiped a concrete poll! It went through insurance and it was just under $3000 so yours sounds right. Replaced one door, all the trim, door Handel and painted both doors and front fender for color match. Sorry that sucks:(

No way would I loan my truck out. Seems no matter what, when you try to help someone out like that it always comes back to bite you. Sorry it happened to you.

I brought my truck over to the body shop yesterday for them to have a look. I am scheduled to drop the truck off on Monday for them to start working on it. They went right to work on the initial write up that my adjuster did, pointing out missing items and time needed to complete tasks. I sat down with the owner and the person who will be in charge of my vehicle. I felt comfortable with them.

And I have a rental car set up for Monday as well. My insurance will cover $800 worth of rental car charges. So I told them to give me the cheapest car so I can really stretch that budget. I might be rolling around in a little economy car for a while...but oh well, I guess I'll save some money on gas for the time its in the shop.

Thanks for all who have posted.

Like you stole it!!! I used to work for a rental car company. I learned that a 1998 Toyota Tercel will do 44mph in 2nd before the rev limiter kicks in, and that 44mph is the perfect speed to start the flying u-turn with right hand e-brake.

Wow, that looks pretty good from the pic. White Diamond is one of the hardest colors to match. I know. Had one. Now I kinda' regret my Deep Ruby Metallic. Have a feeling it would be HARD to fix.

How 'bout a pic of the '78?

Dropped my truck off at the body shop this morning. They estimate a solid 2 weeks worth of repairs. Better than the month estimate that my insurance inspector thought.

Enterprise picked me up and got me set up with a rental car. I have an exceedingly bland Dodge Charger. It's a 2015 model, V6, 8 speed. Rides nice. Will be fine for the couple of weeks while the truck is getting fixed.

I'd like to explain something if I can. This is going to be from a CA point of view but most states are similar enough that it might be helpful for other locations as well. The reason police officers don't usually cite drivers at the scene of an accident is because it takes time for their traffic dept. to review the report and be sure the officer got it all correct. Many collisions can be down right complicated. When you have a vehicle roll or leave the roadway etc. the physics can be tough.

Most depts use what they call a notice of violation. This is simply a ticket in the mail after the report has been reviewed. The only exceptions we had to that in my time, in CA, was unlicensed drivers or suspended drivers. We had to tow the vehicle for impound and those tickets are required to tow the car. If the traffic gurus find or add something later, they just add it to the same case number and send another ticket by mail.

Here's an example of why you should not be in a hurry to write a citation every time. Say you stop someone for a burned out tail light. During the stop you learn the driver is suspended. You draw a case # and write the cite for those violations, and call for a tow truck. While searching the car, prior to towing, you find an 8-ball of coke under the drivers seat. You say all right and as you cuff the guy for arrest for the coke, you just place the cite you wrote in his pocket and use that same case number for all your violations. Well you just blew it. All he has to do is go to traffic court before appearing for the cocaine, and plead guilty. That's it he's all done. Pays his fine and he cannot be charged for the coke due to double jeopardy protection.

So when you guys don't see a cite written it does not always mean someone is getting a way with something. They may just have a surprise coming in the mail.

Insurance came back and said they found the other guy 95% at fault. Therefore my rates will not suffer, and they will try to recover up to 80% of my deductible. I guess that's good news.

Bad news is the parts for my truck were back ordered, so it sat at the body shop for the entire week without being worked on...Gonna be another 2-3 weeks prolly....

Glad you're OK. If you haven't gotten checked out yet, get your ass to a doctor to get checked out. You can feel fine and have SERIOUS problems crop up much later.

You can have internal injuries, etc. and feel fine for DAYS.

DON'T screw with this!

Honestly, it was a low speed collision. I know what you are saying, but I'm truly fine. I appreciate the concern though.

So I went over to the body shop last week to see the progress on the truck. Snapped a few pics. Made me sick to my stomach...

New cab corner, new bedside, new rear passenger door. They said it would be getting painted soon. So I hope to have it back later this week or early next week.
