Got hit today....t-boned

Yep. Not really gonna go into the details of how it happened. But I got t-boned today by a '98 S10. In front of the rear wheel to the rear door on my double cab it's pretty nasty. I'm fine tho and the other drive is fine. His S10 looked like it was messed up pretty good tho.

Truck seems to drive fine, but I gotta think that throws off an alignment and all sorts of stuff when hit like that. Having my insurance look at it tomorrow to see what he thinks. And then to the body shop it goes. Can't wait to see the repair bill. Likely gonna be on my dime since no tickets were issued by the police officer.

Just got back from vacation too. Now this happens. Great!

Just venting....

Was this in a parking lot? That's the only way you could not have been issued a ticket.

Glad everyone is ok.

That sucks. Glad you're OK.

So what you're saying is that it was your fault?

Where I'm from you don't have to have a ticket issued to prove fault in the accident. If they failed to yield or ran a stop sign and hit you, they'd still be at fault and it would be on their insurance.

Hopefully you get it fixed up quickly. My next door neighbor just had his 2015 Sierra double cab hit in pretty much the same spot because some guy was on the shoulder of the road and turned back into traffic without looking. His was about $7000 damage but it hit the rear wheel as well and wrecked it.

Sorry to see that happen! Is the sub okay? Are you okay? in that order......kidding bro!

Didnt really want to get into the details but...

Nope, not a parking lot. I was technically in a "non-usable lane" the part of the left turn lane that is cross hatched. And he failed to yield to oncoming traffic. He pulled between other cars that were continuing on straight and pulled out into my lane, and it was too fast to stop. I swerved to avoid a head on collision, but it wasn't enough and he tagged me with his front right part of his truck right on the passenger side of my truck.

The officer said since we were both at fault he would not issue a ticket. The other drivers insurance was even expired....back in 2014...but still didn't issue a ticket. Idk, seemed kinda messed up. Other driver also didn't speak much English. Si and No.....

Yea the officer said the other guy failed to yield. But since I was using a lane improperly when he hit me, he said were both at fault and he didn't issue a ticket. I mean, just because I was a place I shouldn't have been, he still failed to yield and should have been issued a ticket anyways. I didn't want to argue with the officer as I was flustered as you could imagine.

...with the officers philosophy, you could be parked in your front yard and get hit and he would probably say you werent in an authorized lane!

I know. I'm working in a bufu town at a building that I am renovating....not the brightest cops.

That sucks man, sorry to see your baby got smacked.

Where I live insurance is run by the government and its mandatory to register your vehicle. Everyone here hates them, but I'm sure they wouldn't like fighting with the private insurance companies in the states. You're pretty much always covered with a deductible. I've always been taken care of, but if you have too many claims where you're at fault your license and registration can cost a boat load of $$.

I got hit just like that but closer to the front - had to replace the front wheel/tire.

Probably looking at 6-8 grand in repairs and 3-4 weeks of having the truck in the shop

Sorry to see this happen. My buddy and me both bought both the same model trucks on the same day from 2 different dealerships. 2014ltz, 6 hours later as we were coming back from dinner, he got side swiped. 32 miles on the odometer. 8 grand in repair, no including depreciation. Glad you're okay

Man, that's too bad.

In Dallas, if you are pulled over, or are in an accident and you don't have valid insurance, they can (and usually DO) impound your vehicle. I was in a very similar situation last year. Two lanes merging and I got hit in the rear quarter. The other driver "no habla", no license and no insurance. He didn't even own the vehicle. The cops called another office to translate at the scene. Both cars were drivable. They sent me on my way, and I watched as they impounded the other car, and gave the guy a ride to the police station so he could try and prove who he is.

The office at the scene told me it was a city ordinance passed in 2009. The guy has 48 hours to prove he is here legally, and provide proof of insurance before he can pay the impound fee and get the car back or they give him a free ride back across the border. The car is then sold at auction at the end of the month. The three officers at the scene all seemed to be BIG fans of the ordinance. I am too!

Welcome to Texas! Now go home... Lol!

I'm glad you didn't get hurt. No ticket being issued doesn't matter a whole lot to insurance companies. Your insurance company will not want to pay if they can help it, so if they think they can get any money from the other person/insurance company, they will try to.

Why didn't he get a ticket for no insurance? That's a big deal here in Texas. Did he just not have proof? In Texas they can confirm insurance through state database, so the paper isn't as important anymore. Maybe they did that?

FWIW, I got sideswiped by an off duty police officer several years back in my Yukon. He basically changed three lanes on the interstate all at once trying to make an exit and didn't see me in my lane. He then proceeded to continue driving off the interstate and a couple of more blocks to a gas station all while I was flashing my lights at him. He claimed that he wanted to get off the interstate to not impact traffic, but I think it was to get away from any potential witnesses. He then proceeded to tell the officer and later his insurance that we switched lanes at the same time and made contact. I fought it for 9 months because I wasn't switching lanes at all. My insurance backed me the whole way and kept fighting. I wrote a detailed deposition with my version of the facts and it went to 3rd party arbitration to decide. I won and his insurance had to pay for everything. He had a few inconsistencies in his story, and I made it sound like it was suspicious that he drove so far off the interstate and was overly friendly with the responding officer. If your insurance thinks there's a decent chance to recoop money, they will try.

    • Most say the oil temperature needs to above the boiling point of water to rid it of moisture and long enough to dry it. Many think that is about a hour at 212 F or more. Those people have never line dried cloths in a Midwest winter. Leave a pan of water sitting on the counter and eventually it all evaporates. So heat drives the time it takes. Water in oil under 175 F, the Nitration initiation temperature, is a minimum then for temperature and samples I've done that use Karl Fisher method say about a hour (in a healthy well tuned motor) over 175 F will dry it to under 800 ppm. Low enough to not be much of a factor. Motors with weak rings will take longer and the colder the air temperature the longer it takes.   On a cold motor there is also the condensation temperature. Blowby gases that contain moisture are subject to that cold cylinder wall, like sweat on a glass of ice tea. But also subject to the Law of Partial Pressures. Wear studies by GM and the DOD  indicate wear is a real issue below 85 F and a concern to 140 F but doesn't become a minimal factor until about 160 F. You know this intuitively when you see water vapor exit the exhaust pipe until the system gets above the dew point. It isn't magic, it's physics and it fascinates me. I know you didn't ask but....I over share sometimes. 😉    You keep the Camaro's high and tight.
    • Move further away.   Benefit of living out - none of our cars get short cycled, plenty of warm up time.   Curious how much time/temperature it takes to drive moisture/condensation out of the engine?
    • Switch a a 100% synthetic trans fluid, Amsoil works for me.
    • First of all sorry, I know there are a ton of transmission temperature threads...   My truck is a 2025 LZ0 High (10l89 10-speed) High Country with NHT max trailering package. The NHT package is supposed to have "enhanced cooling."   Normally the trans temp sits around 200. It seems like with any real stress it quickly jumps into the 220s (for example climbing a grade unloaded at lower speeds). I haven't towed much with this truck, but I'm concerned if it gets this hot unloaded.    I've tried a few different things to keep the temps down (tow/haul mode, sport mode, low range when that makes sense) and nothing seems to affect it.    I'm curious if others are the same behavior or if anyone has found techniques to keep the temps down. It seems like it just can't handle reduced airflow at lower speeds, even with relatively light loading.    Thanks!
    • I'm at 105,000 miles on my baby Duramax. No issues yet. I hit 31 mpg's traveling through hilly terrain to a project in Colorado. I will buy another 3.0. I'm not concerned.
