What is on the frame?

I took delivery on my 15 LTZ and noticed a bluesticker on the frame behind the front tire. It was put on incorrectly and the sticker was folded over. I used my tire brush to reach in there and take the sticker off and noticed in doing so I smeared some type of tar sprayed on the frame. Now you can see smear marks from me just simply trying to take a sticker off. I touched the rest of the frame and it feels tacky...

I did not notice that on my 14 LT Z71. Thoughts? Thanks.

I wonder if it's for sound deadening? Absorb sound through the frame? Plausible idea. Now if only it absorbed the shakes and vibrations I get haha

Black frame wax, you can buy it in the can to touch up spots.

I removed all the frame stickers on my truck as they looked tacky then gave a nice light coat where they were.

Wax protection from the factory. Hopefully yours will stay intact for awhile.

One of my trucks, a 2011, had it peeling in chunks after a few months, leaving streaks of rust on my new concrete drive whenever it rained.

They have used it for several years now. Some years had better adhesion than others. I would prefer paint, but mine has held up well for the most part. I had to touch up a couple of spots, and used GM 12346501 after cleaning the areas.

Rust protection please, cheap junk...A few years that "wax" falls of in large chips. SHAME on GM.

The frame is dipped in a tank of wax at time of frame manufacture.

And if you are lucky, your truck gets mounted on a frame where the wax actually sticks to it for a couple of years.

Agreed, they were obviously having some problem with the process during the 2014 MY.

If the truck ever sees salt and has an owner that doesn't bathe it daily it falls off in a very short period of time. Gm would do well to learn from the rest of the world and paint their frames. Not to mention a good hot water pressure washer peels it right off too. And if you drive in dirt... it turns brown because the dust sticks to it.
