Dinged Frame = Totalled Truck?

Well that is a lot more than a dinged frame in my opinion. I would call a dinged frame something like the one dent at the rear cross member.

With that said, I would buy the salvage. I need a good work truck that I can beat on.

The bumper step is melted. It's useless as a work truck now.

You sure are hard on trucks!

I agree on wanting magnee ride control, it is nice!

You need to step up to a Danali HD to get the ground clearance and bwedy frame.

You obviously do some serious off roading to cause frame damage like that. I'm not familiar with the tx law that states it has to be declared a total if the frame is replaced and I'm licensed to adjust claims in tx. Not saying it isn't possible but I'd want to see a copy of the law if it were me. Seems ashame to total a truck worth 40k+ for 17k in damage just because it needs a frame. Good luck in your decision

My work trucks look like that in just a few months and we drive them to about 150k miles (3 to 4 years). The frame is banged up but I would not think it needs replaced!

The pictures show serious damage to the truck. Write it off as totaled and move on. Your insurance rates may go up but if you want to play your going to pay.I would suggest buying a motor cycle if you want to catch air off road.

Another concern if you allow it to be totaled, what is pay off, what will insurance cover and what do your finances look like? Just a thought, hate to end up letting them total truck and you still owing on it. Depreciation is hard and fast once you sign the dotted line at the dealership and some insurance companies won't cover amount owed if higher than value.

I'm still waiting on the details from my insurance. They're supposed to get back with me today or tomorrow with an offer and options.

I only owe like $23,500, and I hope it will appraise around $45k.

Regardless of what they appraise at, go looking for "your truck" out there on dealer lots right now. See what they're actually selling for. Use that information to have an informed discussion with the adjuster as to what it should ACTUALLY be valued at since you'll need to replace it.

I've checked the value at all the Blue Book/NADA sites, as well as checked prices on Autotrader. They're going for between $44 and $47 in my config.

I guess I will play devil's advocate here...

Who spends 50K on a truck to run it off road like you did? I love my truck and use it as a truck, but I'm not running my daily driver up the trail. I'll buy a $500 beater for that.

Again...no disrespect intended...I'm just surprised you took a DENALI off-road...

I went on several trails while I was in Colorado without any problems. There was just one that ended up being much more difficult than I expected. If I would have remembered to remove my running boards before my trip, I probably wouldn't be in this situation as there would have been very little visible damage - just the front bumper. Oh well. I bought my truck to serve multiple purposes, and it's doing that.
