Replacing driver's side low beam headlight on a 2007 2500HD

The driver's side headlight finally burned out on my 2007 Sierra 2500HD. There are quite a number of videos and other instructions concerning how to disassemble enough of the truck in order to gain access to the light bulb. I was figuring out how to take out the aux battery tray and loosen the washer fluid reservoir when inspiration hit.

 

I got a pair of pliers, reached in and twisted the bulb counter-clockwise and pulled it out. The wires were just long enough to get the bulb out from behind the washer fluid reservoir and put in a new bulb. It was less easy to get the new bulb back into the socket. I had trouble getting it pushed all the way into the socket with pliers when my wife offered to help. She was able to reach in and push the bulb into position and twist it clockwise to lock it into position. "Easy", she said.

 

The only reason for posting this is that it might help someone who might be in the same situation, and is contemplating some disassembly. Don't bother. Use pliers, or get a woman or child to do it for you.

Is this the old style or new style truck [i think the body style changed mid-year]? If it's the old style, you pull out two pins on the top, and the whole assembly comes out? My '04 sierra 3500 is like this. And then the corner marker light assembly has a catch-release [you bend it slightly to release it from a catch, then it comes out].

 

Zero tools required.

Mine is the new body style. My Envoy has a couple of tabs that pull up to release the headlight assembly, similar to the older style truck. I guess GM decided that NBS owners could get the bulbs changed at the dealer.

Holy crap. I just googled for this, and the 1aauto video has you removing the radiator cover/shield on top, then the front grill and then you can get at the 2 bolts on the one side. Wow.

 

Now I don't feel so bad having to figure out how to replace some of the plastic clips/holders for my brake lines [broke a couple getting the old ones out]. It's a pre-emptive job, as I'd rather not just suddenly loose my brakes due to rust.

 

And nuts to GM for cheaping out and not including pre-bent rear-axle crossover brake lines as part of their pre-bent brake line kit for the truck. And it's not even cheaping out, nobody would complain about even another $20 for the 2 short sections [the whole kit was $116 cdn]. Now I'm thinking I should have got the Dorman pre-bent kit which has 7 lines [so it includes the rear axle crossover].
