Led strip above running boards

Had this idea to put led strips under the truck where it would light up the running boards on my truck. My thinking would be to wire them to the accessory when my door opens or whatever it's called. Has this been done. And how hard would it be?

Oh yes. This has been done many times over. In fact i am installing mine monday. Thanks to Tim99gt, I ordered these

He did his with amp research motorized boards, but im going to wire them in to the interior light circuit so when the keyless entry is used, they will light up

Here's another option for LEDs. I bought these for my Double Cab and will replace the AMP step LEDs with them when I get a chance. They also have them for Crew Cab length. Very nice white lights (LEDs provided by AMP tend to be purplish).

I ordered 2 sets of the strip LED"s and would like to now how you wired them to work with the keyless entry. That is exactly how I want mine to work. Climbed under the truck today and didn't see anything jumping out at me as to a connection point. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe this was through the grommet and fed through the floorboard to the inside.

I'm going to be doing this install next weekend.

On the drivers side in line with the seat is a grommet for the parking brake. Then under the dash is a a row of connectors, the gray one on the left, and gray wire is for the dome light.

Happen to have a pic of the grommet/wires going into it? Did you seal with silicone?

No I don't have a picture, but it pretty obvious. As for the silicone yes I did, I'm an over kill type person.

There is so a plastic grommet on the passanger side that you can drill a hole in to run the wires into the cab and under the carpet behind the dash to the drivers side. I used silicone to seal the hole up on the passenger side. I ran the drivers side through the parking brake rubber grommet. Poked a hole and ran the wire. It was a pretty tight fit so did not need to use silicone on the drivers side. Tapped into the dome lighting. Works great.
