Buying 2016 All Terrain - What factory accessories/options do I need?

Mud flaps, spray in bedliner, XPEL Clear bra for the front end (Do some research and you'll be glad you did it especially being and All Terrain), Husky X-act contour floor liners.

That's pretty much the list of stuff that I feel is required on my truck..

But seriously, if you are getting the AT package... Invest in a Clear bra for the entire front end of your truck. There's so many threads on here of guys having their bumpers rock chipped badly after 5,000 miles. The paint isn't that great of quality.

my only suggestion is the go ahead and order the

6.2

i have the 5.3...it gets the job done, father n law has the 6.2...world of difference.

he actually gets better gas mileage also.

other than that - get what you need for what you will use the truck for.

i opted to get

husky X-act mats

backflip cover

level

tires...

I prefer the 6" rectangulars and the moulded mud flaps as well.

(for protection from debris, and they make the frame rails less obvious)

Are you stuck on the all terrain? You're expecting a lot of miles, and Z71 may not ride quite as nice as a non-z71 4wd, and z71 is part of the AT package.

SLT or SLE?

Double cab or crew?

SLT crew will have the 8 speed with either 5.3 or 6.2.

SLT double only gets the 8 speed with the 6.2.

Looks like SLE always gets the 6 speed.

Is what you will carry under the cap heavy? Would it fit under a tonneau?

Do you like tow mirrors?

??????? I have a 16 double cab 5.3 in the driveway that begs to differ...

Gm's order guide suggests that a dc could only have the 6 speed, unless it's a 6.2.

Here's what is says:

"M5U Transmission, 8-speed automatic, electronically controlled with overdrive and tow/haul mode. Includes Cruise Grade Braking and Powertrain Grade Braking

slt - Included and only available on Double Cab models with (L86) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine. Standard on Crew Cab models."
And it shows as not available on base and sle.
Interesting.
What differential ratio end did they mate it with?
Never mind, I see it now in your sig.pic.
Same as 16 NHT 5.3 /8speed which is also 3.42.

I can't stop thinking about the 6.2, but I'm getting this truck for the holiday incentive of 20% off. I don't believe they are offering the 6.2 with this incentive. I've done a little research, and seems with some mods and a tune, you can remedy a lot of what people don't like about the 5.3. Would love any input on this.

Update:

I may have found the discrepancy, it looks like availability it has been changed:

From distribution updates in the order guide:
"Week of 11/23/2015
Effective 11/23/2015, the following changes will be made to the Vehicle Order Guide:
Exterior section-(RC7) Tires, P275/55R20 all-terrain, blackwall, changed availability on 1SA to "A" and added a footnote that reads "Requires (SXL) Elevation Edition.".
Mechanical section-(MYC) Transmission, 6-speed automatic, changed availability on 4SA to "S" with a footnote that reads "Requires Double Cab model and (L83) 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine.".
Mechanical section-(M5U) Transmission, 8-speed automatic, changed availability on 4SA to "A" and added a footnote that reads "Included and only available on Double Cab models with (L86) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine. Standard on Crew Cab models.".
SEO/Ship Thru section-Added (A7P) Ship Thru, Produced at Ft. Wayne Assembly and shipped to Caseco Truck Body, St. Clair, MO. (Dealer Invoice = $710.00) Returned to Wentzville Assembly for shipping to final destination. This option is "A" available on all trims with a footnote that reads "Requires a Regular Cab or Double Cab model.".
It appears that what was available, is not longer available to order.
They can, and do, change stuff continuously.

I would take an 8 over a six if I had the option.

Get the drivers side assist handle. The best thing I put into the tuck to date.

The console tray if you have buckets.

I think the color match wheel arches are worth the money they make the truck looks so much better.

get one that is E85 capable from the factory and you will get a bump to 90% of the hp/tq figures of the 6.2 running the E85

After tuning running E85 it surpasses the 6.2's power levels

The changed it in the order guide in mid - November. As posted above, you've got a combination that can no longer be ordered.

They were 'cut and paste' above, but here's the link to the order guide change listing:

(see the Nov 23rd entries)

http://www.gmfleetorderguide.com/NASApp/domestic/distupdate.jsp?year=2016&regionID=1&divisionID=2&vehicleID=17967&daterange=4

Of course there could still be some with that combo sitting on dealer lots.

Anyone looking for that combo should be sure of when the truck was built/which way the truck was built.

    • The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.
    • So I purchased the Range unit for my 2026 and I am seeing different locations suggested for the ECM . Can anyone confirm wither under hood, left side or right side or behind the wheelwell?
    • Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.
    • "Life is getting back to normal."    I'm driving again and all new joints are operating as expected for this stage of recovery.   My most recent joint replacement still requires a lot of attention but experience has taught me that time will quiet the remaining pain.  I joked with my surgeon that another joint replacement would take my mind off my most recent surgery and he responded by saying the next will be a hip!  There are no plans for another surgery but, unlike me, I don't think he was joking!  I certainly wouldn't refuse further replacement  if required but hope to spend time out of the "post-op"  period.  I can't stress enough that if you have been recommended for total hip, knee or shoulder replacement that you welcome the offer.  Post-op "recovery" may sound daunting and painful, however, this is far better than the insidious erosion of mobility you are currently experiencing.  Imagine what it would feel like to wake up most mornings feeling better and more mobile than you did the previous day!  Prior to my first surgery in June 2025, even getting out of bed was becoming a formidable task.  Since the day after my first surgery, I get out of bed everyday easily and unassisted.  Making the switch to feeling a little better each day rather than a little worse, is hugely motivating!
