Is this the kit you are talking about?

That actually has some metal protection for the oil pan! Wonder if you are able to just get the oil pan plate since the Z71 has the other two?

That's the kit.

I'd be interested in this as well if someone can confirm this will fit a 2015 non-z71.

Fits them all. The part # above is V8, V6 uses a different p/n.

the description also says a different air filter.

Best part about that...regular 4x4 and Z71 LV3, L83 and L86 use the same air box and air filter...

GMT-900 used to have a higher capacity filter on the Z71 (there were two different part #s for the filters) but for K2 they just switched to one deal.

Are this the parts that come on z-71 or is this additional?

No. Nothing comes with the full metal skids. These are replacements for the plastic engine splash shield (the one pictured on the first post). All the 1500 trucks (4x4 and Z71) come with that big plastic setup. Z71 only gets the transfer case skid for additional protection. The full metals are sold in the kit and are either bought as an accessory or when a dealer orders a truck, they can option for the metal skid package as a dealer installed factory option (LPO) with the RPO code of SAM.

If you google the part number shown in the Ebay posting, it returns a GM kit underbody kit which shows a pic of the plastic splash guard installed.

Not sure what the Ebay kit is. I recognize the small black rectangular transfer case plate, but I'm not sure if the aluminum pieces replace the plastic splash guard or not. If so the pics of the GM accessory kit seem to imply that it just includes the plastic splash guard (and probably the transfer case plate) and not real metal plates for the front guard.

GM's picture for the kit isn't a proper representation. The eBay posted on the other page is what would be in the kit.

Now when did they come out with this and better yet why don't the Z71 trucks come with them from factory? I know several of us have discussed wanting/wishing GM would have put the metal skid plates and some were looking into aftermarket options with no luck. I knew my Z71 had a plastic "skid plate" when I bought it but was not happy about it since the 02 I traded in had an actual aluminum engine skid plate. Heck, even my base model F150 work truck comes with metal skid plates. If this is the real deal then I may have to shell out the $200+ and get the metal one.

I just crawled under the truck. The EBay kit comes with 2 aluminum plates that replace the large plastic splash shield. One plate goes from the radiator support to the front crossmember. The second plate goes from the crossmember and extends back under the oil pan. The pics of the aluminum plates match the shape of the plastic shield. The small black plate is the transfer case skid plate.

Looks like a decent kit. Makes me sad that I already bought the transfer case plate. I'm tempted to buy the kit and sell the transfer case plate and bolts that come with it.

If you just want the plastic splash plate and brackets, I saw a takeoff listed on EBay.

Just found another EBay seller that has the kit GM# 23176881 listed for $182.71 with free shipping.

Here is a thought, if the bolts are self tapping, you could mount the spare transfer case shield somewhere else for protection. Not sure where, maybe the front of the gas tank (it obviously wouldn't cover much but it would hit that first). Or maybe another spot like the exhaust or something? Just a thought .Interested to see what it looks like for the first person that gets it. I will eventually pick one up for added protection before I take my big trip out west.

Question is, and I probably already know the answer as yes, but I would bet it fits a 2014 too? Anyone verify, everything shows 2015+

I am sure it would fit the 2014 just fine, nothing has changed that I know of. If I get the kit I will just put the new/extra transfer case shield in my closet because I am sure the original will rust out anyway (mine had rust on it when I got the truck new). When somebody pulls the trigger on this then let us know how it works out when you get it installed.

I ordered the kit off of EBay. It should be here in about a week. I probably won't get to put it on until Christmas break.
