GM/Borla or Borla ATAK

I've spent most of the day reading thread upon thread--still can't figure it out.

Can you run the non-GM Borla without tuning the AFM off? Is the drone really bad to the point you want to punch the back glass?

I'm stuck between just paying the money for the GM Borla or getting the ATAK version for $850 shipped (coupon from AutoAnything).

I have never heard the Borla ATAK, but I have the GM Borla and really like it. The GM Borla is more of a Touring sound where I understand the ATAK to be louder than a Sport sound. I had the Corsa Sport and didn't like it - too loud for me and didn't like the AFM helicopter chop (aka drone). I used the Range AFM delete device to eliminate the AFM drone, but Corsa was still too loud. To me, the choice is really a decision between loud or mild.

Thanks! In talking with the wife that is the route I think we are going.

A few guys put on the dynomax vt and liked it. Im thinking about giving it a try and if i dont like it ill get the gm/borla.

Yeah, you can't really compare the Borla Touring to the Borla Atak. That's comparing a mild growl to a loud racing exhaust. The S-Type is in the middle.

I went with the GM/Borla, as I wanted to maintain the AFM and factory tune until the manufacture warranty is over.

That is what my wife said last night. I traded my heavily modified 13' Taurus SHO in for this new truck. I'd rather not mess around with the warranty too much. I elected for an extended 5 year 100k mile warranty.

OH; I just found this AFM Range Delete tool -- my only concern with not getting the GM-Borla was the drone/helicopter noise with V4. I honestly don't think V4 makes a difference and I didn't buy the truck for that. I'm wondering if buying AFM Range Delete and then just getting a shop to put in new piping would suffice.

I went with the GM Borla because I wanted it nice and quiet while cruising. The growl is nice when you put you foot into it but tones down nicely when it not. You could always cut out the GM flapper and put it with a non GM Borla exhaust like the ATAK without turning AFM off.

GM-Borla dual side exhaust arrives today. Thinking about asking my installer, who does great custom pipes and tig work, to do a little cutting and convert it to dual exhaust one on each side behind each rear wheel.

Have had Borla on previous vehicles. The ATAK will wake the neighbors and scare children.

Those of you who went with GM Borla kit from the dealer--is this how yours sound? I talked to Borla and they said this video is what they made for the GM Borla kit.

That is what I am looking. :)

It pretty much sounds like that but hearing it live is the best. I think it's a little louder in the cab when accelerating. Also when it drops down into V4 mode it's louder. When cruising at highway speeds it's nice and quite but you can still hear it just a little.

Sounded tame in the video I have been wanting an exhaust now for. My 5.3 but curious what voids warranty and what doesn't. 062146daca1d017ab8b6233f78b3c816.jpg
