Bgctrading Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Do not very many of these trucks come with dvd players in the head rests?I have even looked at several denalis
LongrangeLauber Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Cheaper to buy not built in, and if they are it is a single unit on the ceiling
Bgctrading Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 When did they stop doing the headrest ones?
LongrangeLauber Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I think when they started producing the k2 trucks. I think the gmt900 trucks had them in the headrest, I'm not 100% sure though
RyanbabZ71 Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Rear seat entertainment is still an option Ryan
TxTruckMan Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Edit: I just checked the Build & Price site and this is what it shows: There are now (2016) two factory options: Single 9" screen in the ceiling with a BluRay player - $1500 Dual 7" screens in the Headrests with DVD - $2100 GM also sells the headrest DVD players on their accessory site - $2000. The headrest set appears to be plug-and-play with everything you need included: Dual independent 7" monitors located in the headrest Cable kit Remote control 2-wireless inferred headphones Vehicle wire harness jumper Control box Owners manual 6-AAA batteries for headphones and remote
JRaschke11 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 $1500... $2000... HAHAHA no chance in hell. What is GM smoking these days? Those prices might have flown in like 2005 but this is 2015 where electronics are disposable. I just got an 8" 4g LG tablet for free from AT&T. I just have to keep it on my mobile data plan for 2 years at $10/month. Add Netflix and you are at like $19 month. $1500 ÷ $19 = Almost 79 months or 6.5 YEARS before the Blu-ray player becomes cheaper. And that doesn't count the cost of buying new physical media because my $19/month comes with streaming media. GM is drunk.
Bgctrading Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 What's the best built in aftermarket solution
GMCguy78 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 No way I would ever pay 2k for this, especially with all the media options available today Sent from my Note 5 using Tapatalk
Red_5 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Getting a built in rear seat entertainment system is a must for my wife so I'm looking into aftermarket systems since the truck I end up with didn't have it. Not many trucks in my area had them installed. Count me as interested in built in in options.
Bgctrading Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 I just pulled the trigger on a 2016 high country it is pretty loaded except for entertainment system. I am going to start some research
Dirtbiker Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I looked into all of this. The salesman told me to go buy 2 ipads instead. So I did. 2 ipad minis which are about the same size as a headrest dvd screen cost me about $750 with military spec cases in case the kids drop them. Cases came with straps that let them hang on the head rest. Another $30 for head phones and they get free games and we down load movies for them. Plus they can take them in any vehicle or hotel room or whatever. Much better than the $1500 for aftermarket headrests that you will not get any return on when you sell the truck. I was set on getting dvd players but very glad I didnt.
hurricanoday Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I ordered it for my truck and I will order it again (the flip down blueray) with my next truck. Kids are 5 and 7 and will probably be having it till they are at least 10+. While it is true some ipads will be cheaper and all that, but for me it is the durability and it being intergrated. Don't have to worry about cables charging etc. Kids jump in the truck flip the screen down and then jump in their carseats. Get buckled and put the headphones on. Also depending on how you look at it, my 15 denali was almost 60k msrp loaded and I spent under 51k (plus tax) so nobody really actually pays 2k for it. I also believe I will get some resale back with the blueray player. I highly recommend it for younger kids, but doubt you will find one on the lot unless you are ordering.
