Question about Silverado trim levels

My dad just picked up a 15 Silverado. I've always been a gmc guy and know most of the trim levels on the gmc side, but not real good with the silverado side. He said his truck is a LT1 w/LT2? Does that make sense? This is his first Chevy, changed him over from many years of f150's. I was just trying to figure out what stuff his truck came with, without him telling me every detail. Thanks for any help.

Chev has more versions in the order guide.

LT1 and LT2 are both LT's. LT2 is Z71.

LT is like SLE in the sierra world. Chev options the Z71 differently than GMC. Chev includes grill change and a bunch of interior trim changes that are not part of the GMC Z71.

Many options that can be added to either LT1 or LT2, just like 3SA (which is the code for SLE)

You aren't the only one, CFRED70. I had a couple of Corvettes and knew them inside and out, but when I bought my Silverado I felt lost. I knew that Z-71 was a package but had no idea that they would call an LT truck with Z-71 an LT2 instead. Totally confused me. Heck, I'm still kinda fuzzy in that area... so take the following with a grain of salt:

For Chevy, I believe it breaks down like this:

WT - Work Truck

LS

LT

LTZ

High Country

LT and LTZ can both come with the Z-71 package, which is sometimes referred to as 2LT or 2LZ. High Country is also known as 3LZ.

Hope this helps.

You'll find this link useful in understanding the Chevy options and packages. There are drop-downs at the top to change cab type.

Thanks for the link... very good info there.

GMC makes Z71 a free flowing suspension option on SLE and SLT trim levels. Chevrolet used to have this 2013 and prior, where Z71 was optional on LT and LTZ.

Z71 for Chevy was the same as Z71 for GMC. Shocks, skid plates, G80, high capacity air filter and box stickers.

2009 or 2010, GMC launched the All Terrain package which was a Z71 with some different appearance pieces (specific wheels, door badges, etc.). So, you could get an SLE with Z71, and then if you wanted to, option further to the All Terrain.

Around the same time, Chevy had launched the Z71 Appearance Package (WEA). You could take a Silverado, add Z71, and if you wanted to further it, option for the WEA package. The package got you a larger specific Z71 decal, body color front end with chrome grille insert, Z71 gauge cluster, Z71 sill plates and Rancho shocks.

Come to the K2 trucks, Z71 suspension option had been merged with the WEA appearance package from the last truck. The merger created the LT Z71 (2LT) and LTZ Z71 (2LZ). So, in theory, Z71 pretty much became a trim level. 2014-2015 it got you a Z71 cluster, sill plates, decals, hill decent control, Rancho shocks, G80, skid plates and specific grille design with black inserts (2015 LTZ Z71 got the same design but chrome insert).

For 2016, LT Z71 and LTZ Z71 get body colored front ends and specific grille design (LT Z71 gets black inserts, LTZ Z71 gets chrome inserts).

GMC went and expanded the All Terrain package with the red stitched seats, body colored front with black inserts, body colored rear bumper (early trucks could get chrome bumpers front and rear), Ranchos, wheels, etc. GMC still however, has Z71 as a standalone suspension upgrade.

Chevy HD trucks have Z71 as an upgrade to LT and LTZ trucks, but it is set up like the 1/2 ton trucks (grille, stickers, cluster, sill plates, HDC, G80, Ranchos and skid plates). On the HD however, the trims are just called LT and LTZ. There is no differentiation for Z71 like the half ton trucks (1LT and 2LT).

And then there's the package levels. For example, I had an LT2 with All Star package and it was just shy of the LTZ as far as accessories go.

Check the label in the glove and then compare the rpo codes to see what options it has.

I don't understand? So is the Chevy z71 and the GMC z71 the same? Other then the few cosmetic things? Suspension is the same right?

Cosmetic things are different. (interior trim, grill...)

Functional things are the same. (Suspension Package, Off-Road, requires 4WD models, includes Z71 chrome side front fender emblems, monotube Rancho brand shocks and (K47) air cleaner, (JHD) Hill Descent Control, (NZZ) underbody shield)

Thanks, that's what I thought. This is my first GMC truck.I have always had a silverado. Was dead set on another one,but I got a deal that I could not pass up on a 15 sle z71. I'm really happy with it.

Does the Chevy come with a locker? I know on the older trucks GMC came with a locking rear end standard while it was an option on the Chevrolet.

G80 is standard on LTw/Z71, all LTZ and on High Country.

Optional on other trims.

Maybe im wrong, but im pretty sure that for 2015 the 2WT trim was changed to the LS.
