How do you find NHT Max Tow package while truck shopping?

With the rarity of these things I wonder what they're worth in the used market. Never know, there might be a time I'll want to step over to a 3\4 or 1 ton.

If you have a 4WD,I believe you'll have to do the front gears as well.

 

 

 

When I got my '15, didn't know E85 was an option, thought it was standard. Don't have it and I'd certainly like it. Have to think about a conversion down the road.

Well duh.... lol I had too. Only if I shift it into 4 wheel drive. For the purpose of just seeing how it drives I am not touching the fronts... The 8.25 they use in these trucks is no different than the gmt900's so they are plentiful.

I found my NHT by building it on the GMC site and using the vehicle search feature on the summary page. I tried the zip codes for several different areas before locating my truck.

The 8 speed/3.42 has lower low gear, and higher high gear the 6 speed with 3.73

Really? Isn't there some guys on this forum who have 6.2L engines with 3:73's?

 

I feel bad for anyone who has a 3:08 ratio with the 6 speed. GM never should have done that. Those trucks would be total dogs.

2014 6.2 has the 6 speed with 3.42 or 3.73

2015 and 2016 6.2 has 8 speed with 3.23 or 3.42

That's all sort of irrelevant though... the ZF in the Ram has a similar gear spread as the 8L90E( being related helps lol) and has an even lower 4.71 first. You can buy a Ram all day long with 3.92's out back which is a lot more mechanical advantage than any GM truck... at 18.46 if you multiply it out. 3.73's should be still available... not this "well its equivalent too"... who cares. It's not 1996 with a 4l60e anymore... I am happy with 3.23 myself but I don't have the power problem people on here seem to have that can't do brakestands... are slow.... laggy throttle etc. 3.73 would still be fun though. ... hell if the aftermarket ever wakes up and makes parts for the 9.76" I wouldn't hesitate to try 4.10! ( That's 18.7 for those that don't do math in first and very much like a 3.92 geared Ram)

NHT trucks are difficult to find on dealer lots. I needed one to tow my travel trailer, and I also wanted a flex fuel. I had to order my truck and it was on constraint for months. I took delivery on May 5, 1915, after trying to order it in late 2014.

I think it was worth the wait. I got a 2015 C1500 LTZ DC with 5.3 L. When I put E85 in it is a very powerful truck, 380HP. With the 3.73 rear end it is a towing machine. No regrets.

Douglrby - what size/ weight trailer are you pulling with the 5.3l?

GM builds the 8L90E but the design itself is heavily influenced by zf.... I didn't say it's a zf trans because it isn't but the design is very similar thus they are related. GM at one point apparently was considering using the ZF box but did their own redesign to suit their own purposes... it's not like it's a bad thing here lol. GM actually uses a zf trans in the cts behind the turboed 3.6...

Yes it is in the 2016 model trucks. Limited to high end trim packages though. Wouldn't let me option a double cab with it and apparently though some have been built that way the option to do so now has been removed.

It was for about a month tops. It has been put on constraint now. LTZ trim only.

Effective week of 11/23/15

Mechanical section-(M5U) Transmission, 8-speed automatic, changed availability on 4SA to "A" and added a footnote that reads "Included and only available on Double Cab models with (L86) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine. Standard on Crew Cab models."

 

Meaning that the 8 speed is no longer available on adouble cab SLT 5.3. It remains available on double cab SLT 6.2 and on SLT 5.3's with either cab. (reg cab is not available in slt trim)
