A different kinda Subwoofer question

Hello everyone,

I have a tricky sub question and I'm looking to see if anyone has tried this before or if it would even be possible. So I had the seats folded down the other day and I've been thinking about how id like a little extra bump in the truck. I have the bose system now. I take my dog everywhere and transport stuff so I can't put in a set of subs in the back under the seats. I did notice however that there is some space behind the seats. Im not sure how much is there but it got me thinking a couple questions and I figured Id ask:

1) Can a sub be placed back there and an amp behind the other one? That way you wouldn't ever see them but they would always be there and it wouldn't impede on being able to fold seats up or down?

2) Can the factory bose sub be swapped out with a bigger one but cut into the same area that way you wouldn't see it but you'd have bigger punch?

3) What about any space under the passenger seat?

4) Has anyone noticed all the rattling that goes on with the bose bass?

If anyone has done any of these feel free to chime in and let me know what you've got! I want something clean that you can't even see.

I don't have the Bose but I have a sub.

1. In general I think there is only room for an amp rack behind the rear seat. If a box was made and even ran with shallow sub's there is not enough room back there.

2. For a sub to replace the Bose I think you can. I'm pretty sure I've seen some builds with new sub's in the console area. That area looks pretty small so I would see what the largest sub you can get in a sealed box would be. Maybe an 8" soundqubed, american bass or sundown

3. I've checked under the passenger front seat and there is barely a room for an amp let alone a sub

I built a sealed box for 2 10" Kickers that I put behind the seat on my '97 extended cab. Not sure the difference in space between it and the 14+, but it was a pretty tight fit.

Fat fingered, and shot from the hip.

I have some recent experience with this topic.. First, there is only enough space to mount an amp behind the rear seat, not enough for a sub. Even if you can get a compact sub to fit, the speaker has to breath front and rear, otherwise its all for not.

I would say if you need the space below the rear seat and want a nice sized sub, the solution for you might be to have a custom enclosure built over the transmission hump behind your front console. This is actually a really good use of space since generally that area is never used.

1.) Most installs I have seen on the interwebs for this truck use the behind seat area for electronics, the drivers and boxes are a bit large.

2.) Yes this is possible, but due to the volume requirents an 8" is probably the largest you can install if you do not want to gut the console completely. If you don't care about the current pockets and nooks and you an fabricate a good looking substitute then there is lots of volume there. This install with an 8" still had to remove the front pocket to gain volume. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/build-logs-project-install-gallery/159994-2014-chevy-silverado-musicar-northwest.html

Additionally you would have to use a different amp placed somewhere else as the Bose amp may not have enough power to drive a different sub. Some testing would be needed.

3.) I did not even try but feel free to let us know what you come up with for that location.

4.) Nothing from the sub itself, but I did not like that the doors shook because the bass is pumped through them since the small console sub is not enough.

I removed the low bass from the doors via bass blockers when I installed my sub to minimize some of the shaking.

If your Bose sub rattles then there could be a problem with it and you should have it checked out.

Totally depending on what type/size sub driver you are using. Since I would not change the driver I wanted to use, the solution was a jump enclosure built to exact specs of the sub.

What you are looking for is custom work center around the bose system which to be honest with you is pretty much a stand alone no support for upgrade system. Now the best choice would be to get line out signals from the bose amp and run your own components.

My example (currently running line out signal from bose amp but will soon be replaced entirely when I install the Alpine x110-sra)(check my build for current updates)

Strikers that's EXACTLY what I was looking for with that video!! I do have the crew cab also. I wonder how expensive it would be just for the sub and amp lol

I'm guessing $3k for the setup based on those custom brackets and working. I wonder how they address the amplified door chime?

Stryker, I left a message on fb for Kyle but haven't heard. Was curious on the cuft for that console sub. In the midst of building one but curious on cuft and ported or sealed. I have a fabbed one right now that that I cut a 2 sub box up to get one enclosure. One 12 vs the 10 inch jl powered sub is crazy. The bass increase was ridiculous and this is off a 15 yr old box, 50 dollar Kenwood sub and a 15 yr old amp....lol

Ahura, not sure if you're referring to the chime for the sub but that's a non problem. The sub doesn't see freq above 200 if even that high. So the chime doesn't get played by the sub.

    • Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young pullets, and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Fred's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Fred's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Vote carefully in the next election, you can't always hear the bells.
    • Can someone confirm if the GM order workbench terminal is able to validate a custom build sequence:   1) Initialize the Allocation Base: Open a new vehicle build queue, select the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD, and pick the High Country (3LZ Preferred Equipment Group).   2) Select the Diesel Powertrain: Go directly to the engine configuration screen and choose RPO code LZ0 (3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel). Ensure it maps to the MHS 10-speed automatic transmission.   3) Deploy the Seating Swap: Navigate to the Interior Options screen and enter RPO code ATT to replace the standard captain's chairs with the power-release 60/40 bench seat. Because you are not trying to force a separate luxury or air-suspension bundle, the standard, premium D07 Fixed Floor Console remains active. The system will accept this change immediately without triggering a warning message.   3)Apply Heavy-Duty Hauling Capability: Input RPO code NHT (Max Trailering Package). The commercial terminal will automatically bundle the required trailering hardware and software modules to support the diesel engine's maximum towing capacity.   5) Layer the Premium Tech and Glass: Separately add code C3U (Panoramic Power Sunroof) and code UKL (Super Cruise) to the order screen.   6) Run the Final Validation: Click the "Validate Order" button at the bottom of the interface.
    • Spent the last hour or 2 googling and reading up on the spacer thing. I don't like the loss of thread contact on the slip on spacers, but it appears you can get "extended" lug nuts that reach into the hole of the wheel to get back the lost threads. Looks like the only true hubcentric slip on spacers are at least .375". I'd want as little as I could get away with and don't want to cause other clearance issues going any thicker. Bora seems to offer what appears to be a well made .375" spacer and extended lug nuts. I searched here and did find a couple threads recommending Bora. But not cheap. By the time I buy spacers and lugs, new TPMS sensors, then pay a tire shop to install the new sensors, I suspect I'm going to be in over $400. Thinking about running out and getting some washers to put behind the wheel to see if .375" is enough to clear calipers, turn lock to lock without rubbing, and to see if the wheels/tires look strange pushed out a little. This would just be to check fitment.
    • Roadmaster makes some quality parts; I have their sway bar. I considered the RAS, but I ended up bagging. I didn't know what kind of ride I'd get with RAS, and the bags have interior jounce bumpers, so I can run 0 pounds pressure. I figured I'd have the best of normal suspension ride with assist on-demand. But it seems you got pretty much the same in one item.
