Cold weather serpentine belt solution?

It's about 30-40 degrees here in Dallas and each morning and afternoon during a cold start the serpentine belt (best assumption as to culprit) makes a squeaky sound. Any solutions? Better belt, etc?

Have dealer install new belt under warranty.

 

 

 

Remove belt and wash with dawn dish soap and let it soak in soapy water over night.

It may be the tensioner as well.

You may have one of the components it's driving with a bearing that is starting to fail.

It is not the belt. Your tensioner is getting ready to leave you on side of the road.

Its been 28 below 0 here and no squeeks from either one of my silverados.

If the tensioner is the culprit, would the squeaking remain after its warmed up?

 

The noise goes away after its warmed up.

It is extremely cold here in Canada, -20 to -30 c and belt sounds just fine. I have around 55000km around the coldest temperature, the belt may not be the issue unless you hear it from opening the hood

If it goes away after warmed up, it ain't the tensioner. I would think tensioner noise would increase with engine speed and continue to get louder until failure. Does it squeal only in cold weather or all the time?

 

I would probably change the belt or just live with the noise...

Mine is new (less than 1500 miles...)

 

It does this as well... its just the belt.

Take the tension off the belt and spin by hand to see if it feels rough.

Take the tension off the belt and spin pulley by hand to see if bearing feels rough.

Under warranty? Leave it to the dealer to take care of it. I wouldn't waste on time on it and put your warranty to use. In the past, my old 2005 5.3 1500 did the same thing. It ended being the idler.
