Funny how people are different. My father in-law has a new f-150 and loves my new GMC sle DC. So much he is considering getting rid of his getting one. He loves how smooth and quit it is. So maybe you should go get one if you think that are so great. Buddy of mine bought one (f-150) about 3 months ago and its been at the dealer for the last month waiting on a part. Hey you know what they say....built Ford tough...NOT.

Has your father-in-law drove or ridden in your truck at night to see how inferior the headlamps are on the 2014-15 Sierras? He may think twice unless he goes with a 2016.

Funny, OP mentions the seat heater. My cousin kept trying to prank me in his '16 Silverado, switching on the seat heater before I'd jump in. Each time (ya, he got me a few times) it took us driving down the road for a few miles before I realized the heat was on. They didn't seem to warm very fast.

My decision came down to price for the most part. I think the Sierra is the best looking truck on the market and will stay looking nice for many years due to the classic look (same with Chevy.) Price was the big factor though. A Ford truck in my area seemed to be like gold for whatever reason. The Ford dealer didn't want to budge much and a similarly optioned Ford truck was nearly $4k more sticker than a GM. I didn't even have to haggle much on the GMC. I told the salesman that I know the trucks don't go for nearly sticker and he nodded and took nearly $8k off instantly. Then we fiddled with the trade a bit and off I went. So easy. Ended up spending less than I thought I'd have to.

I'm coming up on a year and a half with the truck so far and haven't done anything but oil changes. Everything is going well and it feels solidly built so far.

Well I started out with an 86 Chevy C10 Custom Deluxe, then went to a 98 Z71 and not my '14 Z71. When it comes to daily driving, my truck is great. It's a pretty well optioned LT. It has what I want and doesn't have what I don't want like leather heated and cooled seats and the parking sensors in the bumpers. I don't care for that stuff. But, I did learn the hard way to not have a truck that's both your daily driver and only transportation and a play truck. So I'll take my '14 as a daily driver and for work, but for off-road (mainly mudding for me) I prefer an 87 or older Chevy. I would have kept my 86 as a play truck if it would have been 4x4. I just like having a truck that's finally dependable and what I like. My 86 was dependable but it was a POS when it came to the interior and the fact it didn't even have factory A/C other than the vent windows. Just picture that truck you posted, but just 2wd and midnight blue and that was basically my 86. I did love that it was a manual though. The 98 was dependable for a little while and from how I treated it, it just hadn't been dependable for awhile and got fed up so got a new truck. I was actually just looking for a used truck that was a lot newer (like around 07-10) but ended up getting a brand new one lol. I'm also not the type to get something different every few years. I had my 98 ever since Feb '04 and got my '14 in April of '14 so just a tad over 10 years. I plan on keeping this '14 as long as I can keep it on the road.

I agree my 06 has everything I want and I've built it to what I want for the most part. The 86 is a nice simple change up to keep miles down on the 06. I can't bring myself to go any newer than 06 though I don't want all the sensors and random electronic things that come with newer trucks. They look cool but I don't want to try to fix them.

I'm with you on that. I've had newer, and I'm glad I went back to the older ones. 2005-2007 GMT800 is my choice every time.

Do what you want but my 2003 was a POS. The only major electrical change is the safety stuff and those have proven to be pretty reliable so far (and thankfully you can turn them off!).

The few that we've had have been good trucks. My brothers isn't too great though, and the interiors of them are made of pretty crappy materials, but not having to deal with stupid things like tire pressure sensors, AFM etc is nice. All depends on what you want I suppose.

Mine is starting to make a squeak when I turn left. 740,000 miles oh what could it be?

Another win for the F, u can adjust the brightness of the radio without the dash, what a concept,

That part is so annoying about gm. I like the look of the truck and my truck has been overall good but the cheap short sighted shit they did makes me wonder if they know what hey are doing.

Not sure I posted in this thread. But I had to go to dollar store, buy a screen protector and put a piece of tint on it,

Nice idea. I have a screen protector already on it. The issue is I want the dash darker not the navigation screen. The backup camera sucks so bad that it is hard to see when you don't have full brightness on.

My mom's nissan altima 2011 backup camera was so sharp you could read from it. The gmc is grainy.

C the dash doesn't bother me, the radio was actually giving me headaches, sometimes I also put a tab of tape over the overhead console light, when I tinted the radio it also helped with the headlights issue, while they are the same they feel better, all the ambient light in the cab just made everything blend together

Probably just a reaction personally with my eyes

I do like the fords but

I love my GMC 6.2 slt. it has everything and more than I need. big motor that can pull whatever i need. plus get good mileage when not towing.

I took my family out of town for the day on sunday. we were very comfortable and the truck got great mileage avg. 23 mpg.

drove smooth, rode super smooth, my almost 2 year old son slept going and coming back home.

I recently installed a bed rug. my wife was doing some shopping at a outlet mall and my son needed a diaper change. i dropped the gate and changed him right on the bed rug in the parking lot. surprisingly the rug was not hot at all.

it was a great day in the truck.

just ordered a tonneau cover should come in this week.

    • I had skimmed through that article when you posted the link and honestly I felt rather defeated in a sense and realized that all these years in changing oil that in fact putting in what I was told was a good quality oil was probably not filtered as well as it should be although the filter put on the engine would be what ( as long as it never went into bypass mode ) would be the final filtering of the new oil that the engine components would first see, but then the filtering media itself is not up to par to what is ideal because a full flow filter would be too restrictive to filter fine enough for the engines best outcome in the long run. Only one of our tractors over the years which was a Versatile with a 855 Cummins had a separate bypass filter, some engine manufacturers did spec a partial bypass system within the main oil filter but I don't believe any other trucks or equipment I was servicing used such a filter. No doubt a product like the Amsoil bypass system is of benefit as long as nothing goes sideways with the extra plumbing and filter such as a rupture/leak that could cause the oil to pump out of the engine ( yes that Versatile had a remote canister with hoses routed to it as well ). With the idiot egr system on a diesel and as a result forcing a lot more soot into the oil, that certainly isn't helping the diesel engines cause or as you pointed out the GDI engine issue with creating more soot and aside from having a fancy secondary filtering system, changing the oil more often helping lower the total soot load.     So oil manufacturing and the end product is not something one can control and I wonder if there are specs on what various oil packaging companies produce in particle count or size. As to the filtering, if the OEM is not designing a filter size and spec that is really what it could be, they too are short changing the end user and so what is the answer. Of course as you say the oil side can only do so much if the air side isn't keeping up its end of the picture and air filters are only so efficient and if in a dusty environment such as farm or construction or driving gravel roads there is a lot of dirt to filter out and some of that ends up into the air stream.    Of course the irony in places like where I am where they dump the salt on the highways but also will mix in some calcium or outright pure calcium for problem road area's, or using calcium as dust control on gravel roads, the vehicle that gets used in that environment may rust out before a properly engineered engine and maintenance finally wears out so one has to face that reality in the rust belt.
    • Has anyone run these on their 2500?
    • have you stuck with dealer oil changes since then? I made the same switch after getting tired of crawling around under the truck, but I’ve found some dealers are way better than others about getting you in quickly. Curious if yours has been good about scheduling or if you’ve had to look elsewhere for quicker turnaround.
    • Thank you.   I am set on a 3.0 Duramax as my previous truck with a Ford Ecoboost had just as many, if not more, "common" issues.  Cam phasers, timing chain issues, 10-speed valve body and CDF drum, emissions issues, etc.  So I figured, why not get 2x the fuel mileage (these things got 27+mpg on every mixed city/highway test drive I put them through) and better towing capability with resale value to boot?   My minimum, shortest trip will be 50 miles 1-way and I regularly go out of state with a travel trailer.  I'm planning on using this for a marketing/event promotion business also, which would require regular towing of trailers for bands, DJs, sound and lighting gear, along with my personal camera gear for filming events.   Looked at other trucks in the $30k+ price range but the issues seem to be everywhere, plus too many with gaudy mods.  I'm literally sticking with RWD trucks because they tend to be actually used as trucks, vs. the 4x4 models I've seen with unsafe lifts, huge tires, and general mods that would affect reliability (I'm wondering if some of them were tuned, hence the aggressive throttle response and hard shifting).   So my goal is to find a stock, 3.0 with 1 or 2 owners, in good physical condition, and decently well maintained.  Can't seem to find that up here, everything in the $27-30k range has had multiple owners, smoke smell, issues, or body damage.  Or the ridiculously modified trucks with 80k miles for under $27k but lots of problems...
    • That’s pretty tough Grumpy. I reread the previous few posts. They all reference oil changes. Much like your last thread. In my humble opinion it keeps things interesting.
